I tried to play it for the first time a year ago, OP.
The battle system is boring and the overworld's general environment and landscaping doesn't mesh well with the characters.
I got bored of it and stopped playing part way through.

it's only a few hours long
It's aged poorly, but I my opinion the game is still amazing towards the end of disc 1 and onward.
