I forgot about that moment. Started playing the HD remake and that totally snuck up on me about 8 hours in. Nostalgia'd hard.

That's not FF V. Funny how FF IV and VI get all the recognition when IV is super barebones and VI is a mess of glitches and terrible balancing.
>>
>>320783592

Only time I ever hear FFVI mentioned is people like you hating on it and blaming it for being too popular.

Where are all these obnoxious FFVI fans you hate so much? Hell, FFV and IX get mentioned 100x more than FFVI.
>>
No that's either 5 or 9, probably 9 since it's the best of the ps1 FFs but 5 is the second best snes ff
>>
>>320782753
Whenever people talk about "the best FF games" its always either VI, VII or IX, personally I think that X is probably the best all round JRPG there is.
>>
>>320784048

>Whenever people talk about "the best FF games" its always either VI, VII or IX
Not in most threads on /v/. Usually its a big debate between VII and IX. Then some guy mentions FFXII and all hell breaks out.

Then some random guy starts bashing FFVI (which no one even mentioned) and everyone jumps on the hate bandwagon.
>>
>>320782382
Nah that's not FFXII, everyone that didn't play it hates it for some reason.
>>
>>320784558

>everyone that didn't play it hates it for some reason.
And a good majority of those who did play it don't like it.

HA. HA HA. HAAAAAAAH. HAAA HAA HA. HA.
Used to be one of my favourites until I went back and actually played it holy fuck.

That would be 5 or 12 anon

Can we at least all agree that the FFXIII series I feel dumber for even having to say that are the worst out of any "modern" FF games?
>>
>>320785941
Ya obviously
>>
>>320782382
That's not FFXII
>>
>>320783735
Why are you getting so defensive? He simply said FFVI is full of glitches and has "terrible balancing", and honestly between the two games FFIV and VI, V is underrated - which is the entire point of this thread.
>>
>>320785312

Years of FF threads on 4chan. Especially the year after it came out and people were chanting FF was dead, auto combat, Star Wars clone characters, incomplete story, Vaan, etc.
>>
>>320782382
Easily FFIII, even in the underrated threads nobody mentions III because nobody has given it a chance.
>comfy OST
>one of the most fleshed out games on the NES.
>introduction to Summons.
>earliest job system.
>>
You either love FFX or hate it. It's one of the most loved but also one of the most hated, depending on who you talk to. /v/ likes to troll it but deep down I think they like it.

FF3 is super underrated. I'm playing the PSP version and it's great senpai
>>
>>320786101
the story was the best one they've ever done, since the main story is a complete distraction and you play as the pawns of evil deities if you can't read between the lines.

And if you're taking /v/'s opinion as legitimate, then we have nothing more to discuss
>>
>>320786643
I wanted to try some of the older ones. Bought FFII on my tablet to see what it was like. Fucking massive buyers remorse.

>barebones plot
>no actual "characters"
>non-stop need for grindan
>game gives you powerful party member, allows you to give him good gear and level all his shit up then makes him leave the party getting rid of all that experience and gear forever

Seriously fuck that game.
>>
>>320783385

>took you more than 8 hours to get out of Luca from the start

Holy shit you're bad at games aren't you?
>>
>>320786662

>the story was the best one they've ever done
No, it COULD have been. But the CEOs meddled with it so much that the story we got was nowhere near the story Ito wrote.

>And if you're taking /v/'s opinion as legitimate, then we have nothing more to discuss
We're on 4chan. In a thread with an ongoing discussion about how different FF games are viewed on 4chan. Obviously I'm not going to site reddit or something.
>>
>>320786945
Probably the worst FF outside of FF13. Luckily every other FF game is at least decent.
>>
>>320787134
>taking your time = bad at games
Excuse me for not being a huge faggot who rushes through every game skipping all the cutscenes and not exploring or taking in any of the world.
>>
>playing FF6
>big plot events, complete with unskippable 10+ minute cutscene
>immediately after this I'm forced into a scenario where I only have one party member
>enemies in this section can OHKO/Petrify
>the last save point was way at the beginning of the section before the plot events, puzzles and a tedious boss

8 is the best one anyway.
>>
>>320787462
>FFX
>skipping cutscenes
Keep digging shitter
>>
>>320787684
VIII is the weirdest one. Its got tripple triad, some awesome aesthetic designs and a few interesting things going on, Ive never seen a game failed so fucking hard by its story and characters.
>>
>>320787913

>Ive never seen a game failed so fucking hard by its story and characters.

I have. Final Fantasy II, III, IV, VII, X, XII and XIII.
>>
>>320782382
It's not underrated but "overhated."

>Having a story that matters at all
That's like saying FFV was bad because the final boss was a tree
The story in that game was just an unoffensive series of excuses to go fight shit.
>>
>>320789093

>The story in that game was just an unoffensive series of excuses to go fight shit.
Which is why it was bad. Because as limited as the story was, it was still the focus of the game. Everywhere you went and everything you did was dictated by the story. Which means the story needed to carry the game. And it didn't.
>>
>>320786372

It's too hard, that is the main reason. And no english release for the longest time. I remember I died in that fuck huge tower then stopped playing since there was nowhere to save in it from memory.
>>
>>320788420
Har har. I still think the biggest gulf in quality between best and worst aspects of the game is in FFVIII thats all I meant

Yet another FF fan who thinks FF invented everything in JRPGs. And doesn't even know his own fucking series had jobs in the very first game.

>THE STORY ISN'T EVEN SKIPPABLE
>20 HOURS OF CUTSCENES PER GAME

No anon. This is not okay. You say no to the developers when they try pulling this garbage. You say NO.
>>
FFX has the best combat system of any Final Fantasy game. And one of the best levelling systems, when you play with the Expert Sphere Grid.
>>
>>320789879
FF3 isn't even 20 hours long, you are extremely full of shit. Are you the kind of guy who skips the cutscenes when you first get to a town and then complain that you don't know what the fuck to do, because they say what to do in the cutscene? Maybe stick to call of duty with on-screen directions all the time instead of trying to play RPGs?

If the game was any good, it wouldn't need a cutscene to tell me where to go. It would explain it through the gameplay.

Final Fantasy developers seriously do think story is the most important part of the series. Your examples are just the ultimate example of that.

"Yuu don't rike my storey? Well fuk yuu gaijin! That all there is!"

FFII had an alright plot for a NES game and had a pretty good OST.

But yeah, everything else is bad and there are a few difficulty spikes, like the basement in the Arena, Magicians Tower and Jade Passage.

And that's when I quit the game.

That's not a picture of FFII
>>

Both Final Fantasy I and Dragon Quest III came out at the same time and both had classes.

Both were taking inspiration from Ultima and Wizardry, which also had classes.

You're a moron if you think FFIII introduced classes. To the FF series or JRPGs as a whole.
