It had more emphasis on items, since your car can take damage, but you got both front and back weapons, alongside being able to enter a powered up mode.
Its a really, the game gives you ways to deal with people behind you that attack, and there's even a shield item that can protect you from the "blue shell" of that game.

it was the only game i had for my n64, and my 8 years old self would never get tired of it,its colorful,good controls,amazing soundtrack,fun thematic tracks,minigames,a few secrets,etc

If you're still here, OP, Diddy Kong Racing is like Mario Kart 64 with Hovercrafts, Planes, and of course, Karts.
In order to get a weapon powerup, ypu hit a balloon. You then get a weapon like a rocket or something. Ypu can either use the item then, or hit another balloon to upgrade the item from a straight projectile to a homing missile, get another balloon to make it 3 homing missiles. There areultiple paths in each course, each of which has advantages and disadvantages.
Stats are tied to characters and not Karts.
Also there are cool boss fights.
And a really comfy hub world in which you access different worlds.
I don't remember much other than that, maybe another anon could help. I'm playing smash.
