Dragon Quest IV-VI has the option to choose which party members you use. And gives you a wagon to store the party members you aren't using.
Dragon Quest VII has the option to choose which party members to use, but doesn't give you a wagon. In the one game where you change party members the most.
Dragon Quest VIII has four set party members with no option to choose who to use. But gives you a wagon. And the NPCs connected to the wagon are the focus of the whole game.

The problem is, the whole cast wasn't that interesting or memorable. So she wins by default for being the outgoing girl with a sad ending.

The 3DS version has added 2 new playable characters, so that aspect has been kinda thrown out.

Still doesn't take away that the original game didn't have it. Though it wasn't a problem in the original game.
Its more pointing out that DQVII doesn't give you a wagon. When its the game that needs it the most. Then they had the mechanic return in the next game, when you didn't even need a wagon.
