Devs in Japan usually smaller and self-contained, and (usually) aren't forced into bullshit by publishers. In Amercia, however, publishers are just rich people who don't know or give a shit about games and just see it as a business. There are good western games, it's just that they're usually the low to middle budget ones. I like a lot of jap shit, not all of it though but mainline series are mostly g2g, souls, persona, DQ, final fantasy, tales, new ip's like gravity daze, bloodborne, rhythm games, visual novels, metal gear, Ys, and really a ton of other games and genres. For me though I grew out of shooters after playing Counter Strike for 10 years straight, I literally couldn't play another shooter game if you paid me. I understand the appeal of shooters especially when you;re good at them but I will never understand the appeal of Fallout.
