What the hell happened to this genre of gaming guys?
>>
It became simplified. Casualized.
>>
>hurr you missed a single macguffin go back and do the whole game again faggot
Who the fuck thought that was a good idea?
>>
>>320754316
But why? Plenty of people loved FPS back during the N64's days. I'm honestly surprised how good Turok was. I always liked it but I guess it's been so long that I forgot a lot about it.

Could you just imagine if FPS took these game ideas and simply brought it to the modern era? I'm convinced it would absolutely still work today.
>>
>>320754316
Turok is super casual tho...
>>
Did anybody ever actually beat Turok 2, by the way? I played it on N64 as a kid and those levels are just fucking endless.

>>
>>320754560

tell me an FPS game that isn't casual according to you
>>
>>320754645
what you think walk-throughs record/write themselves or what?
>>
>>320754896

I guess I mostly just wanted to know if the average person agreed that the game was ridiculously huge. I just want to see one person go "yeah I beat it" and not be fucking around. It seems insurmountable, and thinking about it troubles me a little.
>>
>>320755056
It was. Level 5 with those bee faggots was the worse.
>>
>>320754645
Port of adia and River of souls were fine imo, shit gets endless in that level with giant spider
>>
>>320754452
you're thinking of turok 2
turok 1 is >omg i missed a key for level 8, let me bring up the pause menu, which tells you which levels have unfound keys, go to that level, look around, grab the key, then warp back out
>>
>>320754452

I hate old fps games for this reason.

FAST SICK ACTION BRO NOT LIKE THESE MODERN GAMES.

Yeah they are at first until you kill everything and then you have to go back and click on every fucking wall for a "secret area" to find your god damn keycards.
>>
>>320755056
I did manage to beat Turok 2 without cheat 6 years after I first played it.

Once you learn certain landmarks as well as weapon locations the game becomes pass easy.

>What the hell happened to this genre of gaming guys?
Generation change.

Romero and Carmack made Wolf3d/Doom after Wizardries and - more precisely - Dungeon Master(with Carmack wanting to make faster fake-3d rendered than Ultima Underworld at the same time), they've just made it faster and more "cool".

Turok was made by people who played both old dungeon crawlers and wolf/doom.

Medal of Honour: AA was made with the idea of copying Turok(since like Turok, it was console game at first), except for one level - Omaha Beach. By the time it was something absolutely fresh so people loved it. Then CoD wanted to do the same Omaha Beach did but through the whole game.

With each of those "transitions" some of that early "I want to make dungeon crawler but fast, cool and action like" idea went to the past.

But then you can argue that Romero and Carmack were the first who started dumbing down and it won't fly to far on /v/.

The price for that remaster is fucking garbage.
>>
>>320755506
Seriously. I'm not paying 20 bucks for one old game. I thought it was Turok 1 and 2 and I MIGHT have paid 20 for that, but for Turok 1 only? Fuck no
>>
>>320755432

>But then you can argue that Romero and Carmack were the first who started dumbing down and it won't fly to far on /v/.

That's only because most /v/irgins never read Masters of Doom.

Also, id died once they made Quake.

Just steam. That studio "remasters" old games for PC pretty much exclusively.
>>
>>320755820
Turok was already slow.
>>
>>320755872
I agree with that as well, but that doesn't mean it's not stupid.

Yeah, works with gamepad too. Can't be bothered to rebind the keys for the steam controller though. You autistic fucks could make a fucking template, but you won't. Lazy fags...
>>
>>320756648
I've beaten original almost 2 decades ago using 4button pad but now I find kbm better for fps.
>>
>>320756820
My mind is fucked. Now that you said that, I can't actually remember if it's done correctly with steam controller or not. I know the gamepad works fine, but the jump button is on the left trigger for some reason (360 cont). Keyboard and mouse work as well ofc. Haven't really fucked around with it, though.
>>
>>320755506
>>320755613

I only felt fine buying it because I knew I loved the game already and it's only £12, but that price is ridiculous.

Do Night Dive need to make their money back from buying the Turok licence or something? Because I feel like if it was half the asking price more people would have bought it, not just the people bitching about it on the Steam forum but people who stumble upon it and take a risk because it's a highly recommended retro game.
>>
>>320757120

I'm playing with an Xbone controller, Left Trigger is jump since the N64 controller layout was Z to shoot and R to jump, and there's tricky platforming so it'd suck if A was the jump button like Turok Evolution.
>>
>17 eurodollars
come on now
i was going to buy it but that's just way too much
>>
>>320757652
You're probably right. I don't remember the Turok controls from back in the day.

>>320757348
>>320757742
Yeeeaaah, Idk. They are publishing System Shock 3 or... I'm not sure how that's working out. But they may be bumping the price to help pay for that shit.
>>
>>320754032
I wouldn't have a problem with its rerelease if it wasn't so FUCKING EXPENSIVE.

Every discussion topic is saying that. Surely they aren't stupid enough to keep it that price.

I completely realize that it's NOT, but calling it a remaster and selling it for that price -- that almost smells of false advertising. It seems like they are toeing the line with that. Again, I get that it's NOT, but it really feels sleazy.
>>
When i got to the 2nd world were all ruined building are i had a huge smile on my face. I forgot how fast paced the game is
>>
>>320754560
Turok is Quake and Unreal mixed together and made for the N64.
>>
>>320755432
>Turok was made by people who played both old dungeon crawlers and wolf/doom.
>in just a short amount of years from now FPS games will be made by people that played games like Battlefield 4, Call of Duty Modern Warefare and Battlefront

Oh god we are going to be in for even shittier games then these? The horror!

I'm not in your argument, but is there any word on that Warhammer game they are making ever going to come out?
>>
>>320755613
They definitely should have bundled the two. I thought that's what they did actually. How were the Turok games after 2?
>>
>>320759627
Rage Wars was a great multiplayer game, 3 and Evolution were very flawed but overall decent, and the 2008 reboot was an abomination.
>>
Fuck is this game fun

>running around at the speed of a motorbike gunning down humanoids with the assault rifle
>killing everything else with rad explosives and miniguns
>mostly cool platforming and collectible hunts to break shit up
>rad bosses

Just wish jumping didn't fuck up all your momentum when you land, but otherwise it's pretty cool.

Looking forward to 2
>>
>>320754032

>blood and gore
>turok 1

nigga you mixed it up with turok 2
>>
>>320759885
It's a shame 2 is a much slower game with less than half the enemies as 1.
>>
>>320759627

I remember 3 being similar to 2, but I don't actually remember playing it at all. I remember playing the Game Boy Color version more.

I remember Turok Evolution being awesome, it was a cool shooter for being a Gamecube game at least. I tried emulating it earlier and the second level is like a shitty Star Fox or Rogue Squadron game, it wasn't fun just because sometimes the pterodactyl you're flying will sometimes turn on it's own and smash into a wall killing you both, and the levels are too narrow.
>>
>>320759885
you can water skip too.

STOP SHILLING TUROK HOLY SHIT

it is my favorite n64 game but fuck off for real, i will pirate your game just because you are such a faggot.
>>
>>320757348
>Do Night Dive need to make their money back from buying the Turok licence or something?
IP owner could demand $ per unit sold, rather than share or flat amount for full licence. It's unusual, but then again, many owners of games recovered by Night Dive aren't even close to videogame industry
>>
>>320755702
I really don't think it would sell more than 3 copies on the ps4

it came out on sale which is cool. i bought it because i never got to play the first turok back in the day so its a new game to me so i dont have a problem. if i had played i probably wouldnt have simply because i would have done everything and had no reason to play again regardless the price.
>>
>>320760749

>>
>>320758408

It's a remaster, not a remake, the game was also rebuilt from the ground up on a completely different engine to feel close to the original while still adding graphical effects like lowering the fog so it could actually be atmospheric and not obtrusive.

And no, there's nothing wrong with quick melee.

Nintendo should have bought out a lot of those cool exclusives they had during N64 days. There loss I guess.
