I don't see the appeal in any of it. And I'm not one of those "I don't like what you like" type of people. The animations and art style look like an indie dev making their first 3d game. And all the gameplay footage I've seen is just a flat arena with almost no texture or environment to it. It's just fighting a bunch of enemies in a large circle containing a background and minimal amount of theming. So what am I missing? Is the story and gameplay somehow more than just the ridiculously underwhelming footage they've shown? I mean come on...the first few seconds of the trailer are 3 people standing completely still with their arms to the side. Where's the passion and artistry?

I'm getting conflicting sentiments here anon. Do you know about the story or not? I wouldn't rely on a trailer of game that's nowhere near finished to give you an idea. For some people it's the gameplay, for some it's the characters and story, and for others it's all of it.

Giving yourself to darkness or purging the darkness from ones heart is essentially doing the same
for the soul.
Then we have the mechanic that one's body can play host to another's soul in two cases: Sora
and Riku. Ven and Kairi's hearts in Sora, then Ansem with Riku. Although I'm not sure if Ansem
being part of Riku after the first game was Riku fighting his own darkness or if a piece of that Heartless
was in Riku.

You always could do this. They disappear but don't release the hearts they hold captive if they're a Emblem, Purebloods release no Hearts, both cases they'll just come back. Unless you're talking about Sora in KH1 after he loses the Keyblade, that's a case of Gameplay segregation and can be chalked up to a couple of this. And I believe during that sequence you can still kill them with magic.

I don't have any problems with the new Shotlock/Flowmotion thing. It didn't seem to kill any of even the basic enemies, so it's balanced, but it's useful to get to the other side of a crowd of enemies. Gotta wait for the final product.

Plus Unchained X Back Cover, which shows us the lore of the very first keyblade wielders. It's a lore movie showcasing us the most ancient stuff of this game's universe. It's also a movie based on the cutscenes form the jap only browser game called Kingdom Hearts X which is comming for international smartphones in the named of Unchained X. It's actuallynot a bad game and has story to it.
And lastly, Birth By Sleep 0.2 -a fragmentary passage- which will cover the rest of what happened to Aqua in the Realm of Darkness after the events of Birth By Sleep Final Mix's unlockable Secret Episode. It's going to be playable and have the lenght of a normal console release world.
