>tfw no deep sea horror games
>>
>>320715119
The problem with deep sea as a setting is that you don't have any architecture, so I think devs are afraid it'll be too dull and repetitive.

I'm with you though, I'd love to see more deep sea games. I think something like Endless Ocean could work great as a horror game, you could have a harpoon as a weapon which takes ages to reload (good for horror) and doesn't need ammo restocks (good for deep sea setting). There could be sea herbs for healing too. Just not sure how the bulk of the game would play because without architecture you can't have either the locked doors mechanic of old school games or the corridor sprinting of modern games.
>>
How would you make it work? I would imagine it just just being somewhat reminiscent of that scene from the Phantom menace where they just swim away from spooky water monsters
>>

>The problem with deep sea as a setting is that you don't have any architecture
So make it like Waterworld nigga.
The sea bottom doesn't have to be boring as shit.

>What is SOMA
>>
>>320715119
one came out like 2 months ago
>>
>>
dont want to be called a shill but apparently this early access game called subnautica? nautica? is good. pirate it maybe
>>
>>320715636
SOMA is deep sea what? I played about 10 minutes of it and it felt like a space station or something to me.
>>
>>320715505
they could just make a game similar to Subnautica but with more edge that way we would have survival horror that actually emphasises the fucking survival aspect
I mean seriously how is Silent Hill or Resident Evil a SURVIVAL horror? Just because you have to collect resources? Wolfenstein TNO is a survival game following that logic.
>>
>>320715119
is that submarine real? it's like something out from gundam
>>
>>320715786
Yup, it's real.
>>
>>320715119
I'm gonna make one, can't do it yet I'm not good enough at programming and I don't have the money but in a few years I'm gonna start developing one, I'm working on a 2d multiplayer game at the moment which is nearly finished
>>
>>320715691
name faggot
>>
>>320715735

Yeah, it's set in an underwater station and has several parts where you travel across the seabed

>>
>>320715710
Subnautica is GOAT if you like/are fucking scared of deep sea shit.
Also is the only open world survival early access that is not a fucking scam.
>>
>>320715871
Huh, I should get back into it then. Fucking backlog.

I meant algae but I'm stupid
>>

>Subnautica is GOAT

Fuck you. The devs are you going to screw you over just like they screwed us over on Natural Selection 2.
>>
>>320715942
I didn't see any of that, didn't get very far tho.
>>
>>320715885

Doesn't really play out like a deep sea horror though - you might as well be on a space station.

The parts where you walk along the sea floor are great, but it doesn't achieve a great level of spook there because you start on the sea floor and don't get a real sense of depth. Not that many game mechanics involving spoopy sea monsters either

The deep dark is a real terror that exists in everyone, it would be hard to make a good game out of it but it would scare literally everyone if done right.
>>
>>320715710
Subnautica is also unintentionally creepy because of that fucking Reaper Leviathan and they want to add at least two other large sea monsters

yeah we need more underwater spoops
>>
Subnautica is pretty well done, but it's not exactly horror. The enemies are only scary to start off with until you get a bit geared up. Wish it had multiplayer. Worth picking up if it goes on sale though.

Um nigga did you even play the game. You take a fucking lift into the abyss, it's like a 2 minute ride. Then you're surrounded by murky shit and creepy as fuck fish including a giant bellowing worm thing.
>>
>>320715946
So, like Rimworld and Subnautica combined?

Im sure you could mod Rimworld to kinda be like that, if ya have any talent.
>>
In subnautica go in creative mode and spawn a big submarine
Go in any direction for some time and start descending
That's some deep sea horror right there

there just wasnt enough hype i guess
that and not enough content

lmao bioshock u idort

it was also really poetic about free will and linear video games, it really foreshadowed bioshock infinite another linear game which implies that you had infinite choices that all lead to the same result. so poetic to take a linear medium and make it so meaningful.

Subnautica best. It actually has that finding nemo moment of leaving a cosy coral reef into big open sea and the size and seriousness of fish fuckery amplifying tenfold. Shits good.

Subnautica is good but I haven't played it in a few months. Updating is a pain and I don't want to buy it on Steam yet until there is co-op/multiplayer

I can't play any underwater game without getting nervous, especially if it has deep areas where you can't see the bottom. And if you can go to the bottom it's even worse because the visibility is nil and there's always something creepy and vicious lurking there.

PLAY SUNLESS SEA NIGGA

NO ONE PLAYS SUNLESS SEA

I do, it isn't really deep sea, it's more about unknown/uncharted seas

What was the game where there is some giant hermit and it uses a submarine as a shell and you could see the outline of it with every beacon pulse. Im sure it was in a trailer for a unreleased game.
