I mean, it's not TRUE randomness, but in real practise you can't predict them while playing the game so they might as well be.

A computer, being a logic based machine, can never produce a truly random number - It always has to be deduced logically...
They can however use mathematical functions to produce a number that for all intensive purposes appears to be random

If a game is designed well then it won't be obviously rigged. And if it's not, you get 100% Orange Juice's singleplayer campaign.

Perhaps they're not truly random, but as long as you're incapable of predicting them or the logic behind, they are.

And anyway, computers nowadays are capable of very efficient approximations.

Pokemon rng is retarded. I've missed twice in a row with a move that had 100% hit chance with no accuracy or evasion modifiers in play and no weather which could have triggered any evasion abilities.

They're effectively random, it's just that a computer can't possibly do random number generation without some kind of seed, meaning it's inherently not entirely random.

There area some (very expensive) ways to do it, like using radioactive decay or background radiation as a seed, but it's still not truly random.

Some early Final Fantasy games used random chances that increase when you fail them. They wanted to not make the player feel the randomness is unfair. I find that kinda brilliant
