It's certainly a niche product and works better for some games than others. I don't regret my purchase. They also release updates for it on a very frequent basis and have already addressed a lot of the complaints people have had about it

I haven't played with it but I don't think it's something you need. Dualshock 3 controllers and Xbone controllers work on PC as well, don't they? They are easily better.
I am using a GC controller with an adapter and it's still good, just have to customize settings every time I play a new game.

For a lot of genres is straight up superior to a traditional dual stick design, for some genres it's better than a m+kb. For some genres, a dual stick is better. For some genres, a m+kb is better.
For a Big Picture setup, it's better than anything else.

I like mine, the problems I have with it is it takes a bit longer to set up for games unless you just use the default "Work like a normal controller."
Games that can make use of gamepad and mouse / keyboard support at the same time are great.
If you don't want to fiddle with options / setting up controls just get a 360 pad or xbone or DS4 or what ever you like. Steam controller is a waste of money if you don't want to fiddle with options and set ups.

They've been releasing steady updates and adding features since it came out and now that they have "mouse-like joystick" mode for the right pad it's better than a stick for any game that uses it for camera movement.

Works fine with platformers (tried it with Spelunky and Shantae games) and third person games as expected (Mafia 2, Saints Row 3, Hitman Blood Money)
FPS games are bit eh, it´s certainly better than with just sticks but touchpad aiming takes time to get used to. Could do just fine in singleplayer games but multiplayer games, no chance.
What I really do like is the amount of options you have to/can fiddle with to make it feel best for you in that particular game.
If you want to more of an oddball controller with good amount of customization then go for it.

With all the updates it's turning into a really nice controller. The dpad mode on the left touchpad works WAAAAY better than I thought it would. The peddle shifters are nice and the gesture stuff you can do is cool. I'm also glad that you don't HAVE to run big picture to use it anymore, you just have to have Steam running as a driver service no doubt.
I'd recommend it. I just wish the Steam link would always work with it. The controller almost always works when plugged into the actual PC, but it doesn't always work whenever you plug it into the Steam link. That said, the link is fantastic. I can finally play games in my living room without dragging my desktop across the house. I haven't been able to get Dark Souls or DR:OtR working with it though.
