Shenmue 2 was in 87 and he was in China, so I guess 88 and beyond will be Shenmue 3, he still seems to be in China I think.
Regardless Yakuza has ties to chinese triads and shit anyway so it could work the other way around with Kiryu and some others doing work in China. With Yakuza's current popularity in the chinese market I imagine soemthing like that would happen in the Yakuza series itself eventually.
