Not Meta Knight and Dedede, too easy. Give them other roles that interweave with the story. Not B. Waddle Dee, he should be like a recurring joke boss (Dedede's underling trying to stop Kirby, even though he's weak and his timing is inappropriate).
I'd like them to all be new characters, but I wouldn't mind Gooey and Adeleine. Gooey would be sillier Kirby (probably your first party member), Adeleine's paint thing could make for cool RPG special attacks and she could open up some lore expansion.
