It's generally enjoyable but Kojima's dumb shit routinely ruins main story missions and so I prefer doing side missions around the Africa map because the Afghanistan map sucks shit since there's mountains in your fucking way so traveling anywhere takes even longer than in Africa.

I fell asleep with the game on a few times but I've still played it way more than I thought I could. I enjoyed mostly everything except the twist (which was spoiled for me about a week before release) and the stuff that makes MGS3 less great. It feels like a game that didn't need to be made and fixes a problem (Big Boss dying twice) that everybody sort of accepted as a relic of old weird '80s games and stopped caring about a long time ago. Skull Face falls flat, Ocelot is barely a character and Venom doesn't talk enough.

I'd just like to make emphasis on gun smith.

I modded a gun, its one of the earliest guns you get, the one that looks like a FAL.

This gun has pretty much the best stats in the game, the only drawback is the 20 rounds mag.

With the gunsmith I gave this gun:

A 45 rounds mag (or was it 30? cant remember, they were enough)
8x variable optics
red dot sights
Supressor
laser
and a fucking grenade launcher

The grenade launcher could destroy a chopper in 3 hits.

And I said to myself "shit, this is fucking OP, it must have some drawback, maybe the deployment cost!"

And yes faggot the boss fights sucked, one of the main reasons why people loved MGS was because of the fucking boss fights.

In this one you get:

>A puzzle boss with an obvious solution that can be solved in 30 seconds

Hell, look at battle gear, the greatest example of cuckoldry in the game. Its one thing to have a trailer tease something and then that something being removed from the game, but when the released game teases a feature that was removed from the release, thats way too fucking much.

It does nothing, yeah it goes on deployment, but its nothing, abso-fucking-lutely nothing, you dont even get to choose if you want to send it or not. And it doesnt even makes a real difference. a 5 s++ and 5 s+ squad with it still had 70% success rate for a fucking pipeline defense. what the fuck were they attacking with that my guys couldnt win wtih a giant tank? an eva unit?

The thing was obviously meant to be used in game as a vehicle but it didnt made it to the final release.

While that is a theme, there were exceptions to this.

In game, Huey is the ultimate fuckface. In previous games, you had Vamp, who remained an unrepentant asshole and everyone who set the boss up to be killed.

Unless I missed something, Liquid also seemed to be sociopathic at best, and at worst, was willing to torch the whole world to make a point that he was better than big boss

Honestly, I have to agree with you about the gun smithing.

There was no balance to the gadgets, and the game either became stupidly easy or extremely boring depending on how you upgraded them.

Since the quest to get upgrades is what 90 percent of the game is based around, I found myself with no real goal after beating the main game since I don't want to 20 variants of shotgun

And the dark themes were supposed to be shit like slavery, rape, very graphic depiction of torture, child soldiers and realistic treatment of POWs.

It was fun for a good hundred, I spent a lot of time padding the story out by redoing missions and wandering Motherbase. But around the time Code Talker started delving into the nature of the parasites the experience soured and was eventually demolished by the ending.

I'm at 280 now. I've spent about $7 on MB coins (yes I'm retarded) to get the 2nd and 3rd FOB so most of my play time is just invading other FOB's to get the resources to build them up and the security equipment that goes with them.

I'm not bothering logging in every day for 3 months to build a 4th or paying for it though. Once I get my 3rd FOB to 4/4 everything with every security upgrade I can get, I'm done with this fucking game.

I kept going because I said to myself "huh they cant possible have the same bases over and over again, there are definitely more than 2 areas, there will definitely be a huge base like shadow moses"

I played the fellowship of the ring on GBA and got to the mines of moria when I was like 10, I hated the game and it took me months to get there but I kept playing because I was hoping the game would become an action game at the scene of the tomb of balin. I would have kept going but the game got bugged and I couldnt progress.

tl;dr: You can perfectly keep playing a game you hate if you hope it gets better.

I'm sick of these missions. They're boring and I don't really give a shit about the outcome. Best part of the game so far was the sniper fight I had with Quiet...but for some reason I was able to run past it so I guess I missed the opportunity to even finish that boss fight.

I'm on the first mission in Africa and I just don't want to play anymore. That first part in the desert was pretty gay. Run in to extract some fuckers I don't care about for 6 hours was no fun.

Great gameplay, shit narrative. I play mgs for great gameplay and narrative. Beat MGS1 in this 8 hours I've spent rescuing random hostages.

Only started playing recently, 11 hours but boy does it not feel like 11 hours. This game is fucking incredible. Granted, it's barely a metal gear solid game at all, but hot off the heels of mgs4, I don't miss the overbearing cutscenes and silly bullshit. I marathoned the whole mgs series recently, so from my perspective mgsV is what mgs3 aspired to be. MGS3 was great, but the controls were awkward and the ideas like hunting animals for food felt unnecessary given that there's plenty of rations lying around. MGS3 feels like it should have been an open world game but they didn't have the technology to do that in 2005.
That said, I do feel like the plot and characters of mgsV are shockingly bland and forgettable compared to previous mgs games.

It's okay. I really like the core gameplay, as in the stealthing and all that, but there's too much downtime and traveling by horse.

The only other MGS games I've played are 4 (liked it), Peace Walker (didn't like it) and MGS1 (didn't like it). I'm a big fan of stealth/infiltration, but getting detected in this game is just frustrating, and the bases feel super repetitive. I had more fun with Far Cry 3 desu

Collected all the animals in one sitting took like an hour or two. That's like an easy 10%.

Worked on S-Ranking all the missions first, then finishing side objectives, and when necessary using the stealth camo.

I was like 70% done and in a weekend grinded to 100%, and goddamn I had fun doing so.

Yes but the ending pissed me off so much I was soured on the game completely. I was very irritated about losing Quiet at that point as well

In retrospect I would have loved this exact game minus the Metal Gear license entirely

To curb the repetitive feeling I just tackled missions and side ops in ways I typically wouldn't normally do. For example there's the Red Brass mission, instead of just running around the map knocking them all out and fultoning them I met the first commander, placed C4 on him and waited for all guards to show up before detonating.

When I forced myself to change a load out before tacking a side op of the same objective I found myself stretching for new ideas to keep things fresh.

Tank units with water pistol and an enemy picked up assault rifle aint easy, but makes it fun.

Exactly 100 hours with 75% completion. Barely touched the multiplayer since it seems pretty boring. (Outpost thing, not MGO)

At the 100 hour mark, I felt like I have seen all the game has to offer and any further playing is just repetitive and boring.

I liked it a lot at first, but it quickly got me weary of it. At the 50 hour mark i was basically grinding for 100% and at the 80 I had nothing to do but wait on a Nuke to build to get the platinum.

Overall, I liked the game a lot, even though the story got disappointing after Chapter 1 ended.

huge mgs fan since very beginning MGS1
was drawing fan art for it like 10 years ago

havent even bothered to finish the game
too many tedious grinding bullshit things int he way of a good game
also the way the mission format its annoying, constant loading screens just to get to the next story mission


honestly i bought the game more for MGO, because MGO is god tier multiplayer experience and if none of you have tried it, give it a chance
