The last shmup I attempted was Mystic Square, I've gotten to the Stage 5 boss without a game over so far, I always without fail choke at the stage 4 boss (I know to pick Mai, but I choke during the dual part). I've 1cc'd SoEW, LLS, and EoSD, and want to 1cc MS so I can have a complete row. I usually use Mima in MS.
I'm just really bad at shmups. It took me literally a year of on-and-off attempts to 1cc EoSD, though it only took me a few weeks for SoEW and LLS.

You don't. It takes a lot of practice but you should learn how to predict the openings when the barrages come together while standing directly below Eirin. If everything goes fine you'll only need to dodge the pattern twice unless you are playing with Solo Alice which is stupid.

That's pretty good, then it just means that you need more time adapting from horizontal to vertical. I'm assuming this is your first bullet hell so you'll need get used to your small hitbox and learn to stream and crosstream since most patterns in this game rely on aimed bullets. Also be sure to destroy familiars to
clear the barages of bullets they shoot at you.

Yeah I guess. I don't really know if there's any difference between horizontal to vertical in the way we read bullets but maybe there are. I think I'm pretty ok with how the hitboxes work though. Many times when I die I just didn't see the bullet and it feels frustrating because I feel like there's nothing I could have done to avoid it. And I do bomb when I see I'm in trouble.
I'm probably gonna take a break from Mushihimesama.

Are you getting those big score bonuses on stage 2? The one after the two minibosses and the one as the huge laser is charging up, I mean. If you get both of them and play the rest fairly well you can get 8-10 million before you even hit stage 3, which makes getting all the extends very easy.
