Got it today and having a blast so far 3+ hours in.
It's like Metro setting meets Fallout 1/2 as people might of said, no programming bugs but meet some other monster bugs in the game.

Yeah, they get stronger and have access to more psi ablities when there's more. They have hard shells so using mechanical weapons is less effective on them apparently.
If they use their Psi abilities though, they expose their brain and their damage resistance goes down. Get close, they'll close up their brain and use their pincers instead to hurt you, which does less damage compared to the Psi shit but they take longer to kill. Pick your poison.
Not sure how energy weapons and stuff works on them though, I went a sneaky gunslinger build.
