4 is a great introduction for the mechanics of the ps2 trilogy, nice graphics straightforward story. Great starting point. Also i personally love the shit out of the ps1 titles, but you'll have to get over the more arcadey style of them

4's probably the best starting point. Only the Japanese version of 3 is any good, so your copy probably isn't worth playing. 1 and 2 are good, but they're pretty primitive, so they can be hard to play. It's hard to play without freelook once you're used to it, I tell you what.

1's not so hot, but it's not bad at all. It's just that 2 is so much better (go play 2 when you can, fucking love that game), better visuals (AC1 is probably the worst looking of the launch window PS1 games), missions, handling, everything.

3's gameplay isn't so good (it's super slow and you can kill nearly every enemy by just spamming missiles from any decent angle since most planes can fire 4/6 at once), so the main selling point was the story and the branching campaign that allowed you play missions from both sides. Then the US/Europe release removed the story and branching campaign.

The PSP games you can easily emulate. There's also the 3DS remake of 2 which I hear is pretty good. Assault Horizon isn't a good Ace Combat game and only get into infinity if you're desperate for more ace combat.Finally free of that twisted game after getting myself to ~2300 MR.

Yeah, but I don't think they've actually hacked it all into the game yet. You can play like half of it no problem, but the other half will require you to alt tab back and forth between the game and the translation.
