Monitor. A $400 27" 1080p monitor is going to have great specs while a $400 TV is going to be shit.

Monitor for games
Television for movies

Most televisions have awful input lag and can be quite noticeable in rhythm games or first person shooters.

Monitor
Easier to find with minimal input lag and IPS really does make a nice difference.

Avoid 4k though. Friend got one and the reality of the specs is far from what is listed. Fucking laggy shit banks on most people not being able to notice why they get their asshanded to them.

plug your tv into your computer right now. set it to 1080p. enjoy not being able to view a sixth of the screen at any time unless you lower the resolution to 1366x768. or better yet, turn on your television and go to ANY channel and just look at the corners of the screen. now download that same episode on your computer and view it on there through your monitor, you will notice theyve cut off part of the video for some fucking reason. tv market is the most corrupt one i can even think about

>>
>>320670314
I had them together long ago but I really didn't use them like that. So when I got this desk I was like fuck it, yo. It's not far enough apart that it actually requires effort to look at it anyways.
>>
>>320670120

I'm the guy who posted the webm above. That TV is connected to my PC via HDMI. It's a Sony w800b at 1080p. Nothing is cut off at all. It was way less than $1000.

This modern era of giant super HD smart TVs means you'd have to be a filthy disgusting casual to play on something like a 27 inch monitor.
I played Super Mario Bros and Legend of Zelda on a 52 inch CRT as a child so I'm a bit biased though. About time for you to ketchup, Mustards.
>vidya on a tiny screen
>ever
>>
>>320670120

Nvidia Graphics cards screw up the resolution by 6 pixels or so, but the ATi cards somehow make 1080p and 720p work.

That was 3 years ago, so IDK about now.

There are plenty of 1080p monitors that do there job and cheaply too.
>>
>>320668602
Pretty sure I asked this before but I just didn't check back on the thread. Do you just run an extremely long HDMI cable over to your TV?
>>
>>320670867

It's just a 30' HDMI cable ran inside the wall. Was something like $50 and pretty easy to do in my case.

I do all my high quality shitposting from the comfort of my couch. Got one of those Magic the Gathering playmats wrapped around a copy of The Halo Compendium and I use that as a mouse pad.
The days of being slaved to an office chair and a desk, even an ultra luxurious $3000 leather and oak set with tons of options, are over. Uncompromised comfort is now a requirement for the true gaming masterrace.

pics a little older but looks almost the same still.
Got an actual sound system now at least.

I like the setup but its rather improvised and less planned + kind of ugly since the cables are spread out on the rug

Once I move out I'd prefer getting a set-up like this >>320668602

It makes a big difference if you actually have to sit down somewhere else to watch a movie or play a game with a controller, you get less distracted by your browsing-habits and more immersed and relaxed.

Why doesn't your monitor double as a TV? Don't you have a TV tuner in your monitor?
>>
Monitors are objectively better for gaming. Higher contrast, faster response times, higher refresh rates, higher resolutions, lower prices, and I'm pretty sure there are no TVs with DVI or DisplayPort connectivity, so if you want to get more than 60hz refresh rate or higher than 1080p at 60hz, you're SOL.
>>
>>320681574

Pretty much this. The difference in quality between a $200-400 TV and a $200-400 monitor is staggering. A monitor at the same price range will win hands down every time.

I'm trying to work out how to put a TV into the room. It's pretty small, and my desk takes up most of the room.
The futon isn't comfy enough to lie down on and play games, unfortunately. Metal armrests was a poor choice.
