My favorite 3d platformer
>>
>>320637529
I don't believe this
>>
>>320637529
wow I didn't know that
>>
You can use the spin attack to extend your jumps and land safely from long heights
>>
>>320637529
>getting that precursor orb that requires you to swim out to one of those windmill things
>the robot shows up
>just barely avoid dying to it when you fall into the water by just trying to get back onto the rocks
>>
>>320639596
Everyone knows that one.
>>
>>320637529
>>320639596
All of your R1 tricks on the jetboard could damage things, this is only in Jak II, and gets removed in 3.

If you hold down jump after doing that ground pound move when you bounce up you go higher, its in all games, but you get an animation of Jak and Daxter spinning in a circle when you do it in II and 3.
>>
I tried so hard to like Jak 2 but I just couldn't get in to it.
Tone shift from the 1st was to big for me.
>>
>>320640856
You could also do successive ground pounds with the extra height from holding jump down. I used to go around the whole place endlessly chaining them.
>>
>>320640608
You could kill the robot by turning into giant dark Jak and using the ground pound.
>>
>>320640856
You mean when you press square after jumping, then hit x as you land? That's simple. And holy fucking shit do you get a lot of air from that.
>>
>>320641561
You don't even have to hit X as you land, just whole it down, as Jak is coming down.
>>
In Jak & Daxter you can lightly tap R1 repeatedly to wiggle your ass.

jak&daxter is the only game in the series

I never played beyond the first game and loved it, how did the story progress and end?

Y'know that mission where you have to escape the slums with guards coming down everywhere, and you can't go in the water or the robot will instakill you?

If you turn into Dark Jak and Dark Bomb into the water, you can blow it up and swim out safely
>>
It works in jak 1 and 2, dunno about 3 but if you keep hitting up on the left stick while swimming it'll keep initiating the swim animation and you can swim faster by doing this. Any other fun tricks witht he controls? I didn't know about this one >>320640856
>>
>>320641895
time travel, edge, edge, and more edge. also guns and jak gets infused with the fucking substance that was the MAIN ANTAGONIST of the first game (dark eco)
>>
>>320637529

There's an amazing amount of detail in some games which simply aren't fun. It's a shame really.
>>
>>320641895
I would tell you to go emulate them but these games will forever be fucked up. There should be a video of all the cutscenes on youtube somewhere.
>>320642027
>le edge meme
>>
The controls in Jak & Daxter are probably some of the best in any platformer. I can mess around with all the different moves for minutes.
>>
>>320641895
It turns into GTA.
>>
>>320642127
> forever be fucked up
What? Is it really that difficult to emulate them?
>>
>>320642472
Yeah. Naughty Dog used the integrated PS1 in the PS2s to help load textures so that the games were more seamless and smooth. It's great for the game overall but it makes emulation basically impossible.
>>
I loved Jak 1 and 2. 3 I liked 3 but after beating it I didn't have as much fun as the other two.
Really wish the vita port wasn't trash because I don't like playing my PS3.
>>
>>320641980
Or you could just play through it the non pleb way.
>>
>>320641895
Jak 2:
>Jak, Daxter, Keira and Samos timewarp into the future where there's a tyrannical ruler named Praxis and a race of monsters called Metalheads who are attacking the city
>Jak gets taken prisoner by Praxis and experimented on with Dark Eco for two years
>Daxter works as an exterminator during that time and later breaks him out
>They join the resistance to get Praxis
>Resistance are protecting a little kid who is the rightful ruler
>Later discover that a younger version of Samos is the leader of the Resistance
>Kindly old man named Kor in the Resistance is actually the Metalhead king in disguise
>Praxis is going to use a fuckhuge bomb to kill all the Metalheads but doesn't know it will also kill everything else in the universe
>Kor kills Praxis
>Jak kills Kor
>The little kid is actually a younger version of Jak
>Young Samos takes Young Jak into the past where they'll eventually come back as the current Samos and Jak
>Everyone else stays in the future

Jak 3:
>Jak gets kicked out of the city by dickbag in new reformed government
>Exiled to the wasteland, joins city of outcasts led by Damas
>Minor bad guy Errol from Jak 2 is now a cyborg trying to cause the end of the world by bringing back mutated precursors called Dark Makers
>Government dickbag is secretly trying to harness the power of the precursors for himself
>Precursors turn out to be ottsels
>Daxter is a precursor
>Dickbag gets turned into one too
>Damas was the emperor before Praxis and is Jak's dad
>Jak finds this out moments before Damas dies
>Daxter's girlfriend becomes an ottsel
>Also Jak is the hero Mar who founded the city in the first place because time travel

Then there's the racing game where nothing really important happens except Jak and Keira hook up
>>
MGS 2 & 3 also did a lot of interesting stuff with the analog buttons, but it's shame that Sony keeps fucking it up with each console release and removes something from the last iteration. First they tried to axe rumble from the sixaxis and now the DS4 lacks pressure input.
>>
>>320640856
Something I liked in Jak 3 is that crouching on the JET Board gives you an aura around it which can knock back enemies. I think you can also press the circle button to send out a small shockwave.
>>
>>320642584

Got any sauce on that? Texture wizardry on the PS2 usually has little to do with IOP hax.
>>
>>320642864
Yeah, the shockwave pretty much replaces damaging things with R1 tricks,.

I also didn't know about the aura being able to knock people back.
>>
>>320642584
>>320642472
Just buy the HD collection
>>
>>320642779
Rumble has been back since the DS3. And I can only think of 4 games that used the pressure face buttons so who cares.
>>
>>320642779

Thing is, it's easy to put rumble back in.
Pressure sensitivity is never coming back.

I play a lot of racing games, in Gran Turismo 6 I noticed that, the circled UI item, is a throttle and brake level metter, 0-100% you know, and it would vary the throttle or brakes according to how hard the X or Square button was being pressed.
Yeah I know that the analog sticks are better than buttons, I use them, but this is still cool as fuck.

Actually, Jak finds out he's Damas's son literally seconds after he dies and also gets taunted about it.
>>320642965
Google search Jak emulation and you'll see the problem. And it can't be solved either. You can fix the frame rate problems but the textures are unfixable.
>>320643135
This is pretty much the only choice these days.
>>
>>320643142

I can only think of three good ones where it makes a significant difference.
>>
>>320643291
Although I get why, it's a shame we never got a proper fight against Veger. He was such a giant cunt. I wanted to smash his big-ass nose into his face.
>>
>>320643291

I'm not seeing anything about the specific technology in play here.
>>
>>320643291
Or just stick with a PS2, the games are super cheap and still hold up well.
>>
>>320643562
Oh, that. I've never been able to find any solid sources on that either. I wouldn't doubt that's it, though. ND were wizards at abusing the hardware with Crash and Jak.

>>320643370
I can't think of any. Most used them to press something down hard like a paintbrush in Okami. But with Metal Gear it was so finicky I could never slowly release to cancel a bullet, it would've been better without.
>>
>>320643708

I'm gonna call bullshit then. There are some real interesting pieces in the PS2 hardware that relate to texture streaming but the PS1 hardware not so much.
>>
>>320643831
She was surprisingly cool about being turned into an animal.
>>
>>320643859

I like how Ace Combat used it.
>>
>>320643934
It wasn't just textures. It also seemed to help load certain models or pieces of models.
>>
>Dark Daxter
>>
>>320644283

Yeah, that's gonna be related to the extremely fast link between main ram and (the pitifully small) vram.
>>
>>320643934
I'm not sure about texture but in bonus interviews , naghty dog said they used the ps1 chip to improve visibility when they weren't supposed to. Its hardware specific tricks made it difficult to port to ps3
>>
> grew up with the ps2 and Gamecube

Fuck off of, /v/. The 6th generation was a fucking trainwreak. Pokemon became shit after 2000, the Gamecube had some of the worst Nintendo 1st party games, and then you have shit like the Jak series. Trash compared to Spyro and Crash.
