I really don't get the hate for this or 7. Both game had creative powers that had some light use in levels themselves for variety.
Compare to Mega Man 6, where every weapon seems to be a generic projectile or flash attack (Centaur Flash, really?) and the game has a total lack of challenge.
I don't hate 6, though. It had some good ideas, but 7 and 8 are much better than it.

So it's hard to really talk about which is worse and which is best since it's all personal. I mean I love FFX but I also played it in a time when I had really bad daddy issues so the story really hit home more than most people.

It's not just grinding they always talk about and Grinding in FF games has always been significantly easier than most other RPG's compare it to early dragons quest, ultima, wizardry or even the first Mother game at the time and you'll see easily the problem is not grinding. The problem was the slight difficulty spike people had with a few minor gameplay changes, that is why most casuals hate 2. As for your second statement, you're stretching a bit i wasn't directly comparing 10 to 1-4 I just had them in the same post. If I was though there are a lot of significant changes that happened between them and 10.

12 to me is the windwaker of the FF series there is some really good aspects, there is some really shit aspects and in some ways it felt unfinished. It would be right in the middle of FF games if I ranked them.

Dragon Quest 6 isn't a bad game or even black sheep. It's just alright which for a Dragon Quest game is something weird. Dragon Quest had always been the height of gameplay, story and just greatness. But 6 just felt like it was just...there. It's fun yeah but compare to the other Dragon Quest it is an oddity. At least it's not Dragon Quest 2 and Rome.
