Tower Knight

Just because of the music
>>
>>320601850
Guardian was really good. The first time I fought it, I actually had to learn all of its different swing patterns.
It just has too little health, and flies a little too much.

This, but it also has the most boring design overall

As much as I think it was a slightly sub-par boss on it's own, personally I think it fits well, serving as a good introduction to the DLC and it's general theme of "Very aggressive enemies, better get defensive and learn to roll"
>>
Playing through DaSII currently and I'm a little disappointed with the boss fights. Gameplay wise they're alright, but none of them left me in awe so far like most of DaS I did. The soundtrack is worse as well, which plays an important role for me.

I think the witch of hemwick boss fight would have been better if there was more of a jungle gym to run around than what we got. The witch would roam around instead of standing still and occsdionally flail her red light to give away her position. Have the room dark too for extra spook immersion with the wandering witch summons with glowy eyes
>>
>>320602508
I liked it too anon, first time I fought him I had killed the fireball throwing giant because he was bothering me elsewhere, I entered the boss fight, lured him into the middle and had my ass handed to me like 10 times
>>
>>320602436
My gripe with the bosses in DaS2 is that the best ones are all "humanoid with sword." That's not normally a problem since just about every boss like that in Souls is pretty great but DaS1 had good bosses that werent just that.

I think the reason why none leave you in awe is because the team when crazy putting a boss in every area. Less time focused on each one to opt for a larger amount. Trouble is you get some really gimmicky/lazy/easy boss fights scattered throughout in between the really enjoyable ones.
>>
>>320602436

Or just learn to upgrade your shield. First time I went in I had a +10 Balder Shield and only had to roll during the gust of wind really. Everyone I know that got rekt by him always had the same answer when I asked what shield theyre using to block him: "Grass Crest"

>>320603076
Yeah, shit like a rat army you hack through, copy & pasted Ornstein or Gargoyles and Jabba the Hutt were extremely lazy designed. They're completely unremarkable and boring, whereas the Pursuer, Smelter Demon etc are pretty cool.

You sound like you never actually played the game.
90% of darkwraiths are twinks invading low level new players who have literally objectively no chance of winning.
This kind of a experience instantly turns off people from going human.
>>
>>320603765
Dark souls was my first and I went through it blind not knowing any mechanics at all.

I didn't learn about summoning until Anor Londo but that's only because I looked up a guide at that point on how to beat him. Most people suggested to just summon Solaire so that's what I did.

I spent like my whole first day playing the game trying to beat the gargoyles

What's wrong with this? It's in the game. The devs allow you to do it. It's fair game. Some people want to play games solo. Some want to do it with others. You get your choice, other people are allowed theirs.

Five favorite SoulsBorne fights

1. Orphan of Kos -- Miyazaki's most challenging boss and among the most atmospheric
2. Fume Knight -- hands down the best boss fight in Dark Souls 2, plus the coolest "dark knight" in the series
3. Sanctuary Guardian -- has as much complexity and aggression as a Monster Hunter boss, which I like
4. Manus, Father of the Abyss -- the coolest boss in the Dark Souls 1 DLC and the hardest
5. Gehrman -- the best final boss in the SoulsBorne series, and the most challenging

Five worst SoulsBorne fights

1. Adjudicator (what the fuck were they thinking?)
2. Any of the Arch Demon bosses in Demon's Souls (Dragon God, Old Monk, Maiden Astraea, Storm King)
3. Any of the rehashed boss fights in the Dark Souls 2 DLC (Blue Smelter, 2 cats, Nashandra 2.0)
4. Any of the rehashed boss fights in the Bloodborne DLC (Firesage Lawrence and 4kings Failures)
5. Any of the rehashed boss fights in the Bloodborne chalice dungeons

No. Demon's Souls has the worst bosses in the franchise. To this day, I don't know why anyone can consider them a challenge. Even the hardest ones, like False King Allant and Flamelurker, are EZ mode compared to even simple Bloodborne bosses like Cleric Beast or Vicar Amelia.

I can't take anyone seriously who says that Demon's Souls is in any way hard or the best in the series.

That sounds like it would fall flat though being that you have to do most of the DLC before doing that fight, you're basically actively avoiding doing Darkroot Garden and by extension New Londo, and when you do come to it the boss is going to be piss easy.

Storm King is the best gimmick fight, Kalameet is the best real fight.
>>
>>320611794
I never felt bad for ending him either.

It was a neat battle between two warriors. Honorable way to go. If he really cared that much about surviving he wouldn't have waited at his Master's grave for hundreds of years and he would have just let the Chosen Undead take the ring.

Personally I had much bigger trouble with Kalameet. That fucker just straight-up cheated me so many times with pretending to do one thing but just before the move ended making it another.
Killing him wasn't even satisfying because I knew I simply got an easier RNG on the encounter as he hadn't performed some of the insane shit I've seen during 30 deaths.
>>
>>320614850
Most DLC bosses were harder than the others. But anyways everyone has different experiences with their boss fights so there is not one boss that is THE HARDEST boss in the game for everyone.

>needing to go online to experience your version of a "good boss"

Looking Glass Knight is at least still a decent fight offline even without the NG+ PvP option that you can use while you're offline.

Old Monk is a shit boss offline. And varies in quality online.

>>
>>320613001
I did. The first half is the same Cleric Beast. The second half is just 2-3 bunch of moves pasted together from different boss attacks.

He's a rehash, Just like Firesage Demon is a rehash. Firesage Demon has two new AoE spells. Doesn't make him NOT a rehashed fight.
>>
>>320614850
>get grabbed and have my life sucked to barely a sliver
>fall down beneath him and he instantly does his ground and pound with his feet

Kalameet was bullshit but that fight was so satisfying. I was in the fucking zone.
>>
>>320614850
You can cheese him with a high stability shield. He doesn't combo heavily so as long as you have 40END and a high stability shield (like the Artorias shield or the Havel shield or even the Silver Knight shield), you're fine.

You can't do the same for Manus. Manus has too many stamina-draining combos for you to stick behind a high-stability shield.

This.

Also this boss is the only boss that sometimes is unfair, because there are two bosses in a decent sized area, it is possible for one of them to attack you when they are off screen so its just luck for them to position themselves close to each other.

why the fuck was that whole area Snakes? It feels so out of place. Are snakes pthumerian magic?
>>
>>320616496
Manus is extremely easy to kill with a spear once you have his moves figured out.
For Kalameet almost nothing works as he will switch moves and perform combos that will kill you even with a shield sometimes. Other times he will stubbornly use the same moves and bore you to death.
>>
>>320603013
I'd like to see that anon, would really add to the creeptastic shit already going on in bloodborne, would also make you wonder even more about what happened to that hunter strapped to the chair at the end
>>
Imagine playing through dark souls 2 with bloodborne movement speed and weapons. After a couple hundred hours in 2 I can't stomach playing through it again because how annoying every area is and how boring it is kiting stuff. But I feel like of it controlled like bloodborne I would continue playing the shit out of it. Even if the level design wasn't great, the game encounters would actually be fun and the pace wouldn't be so damn slow

>still no mention of Artorias
I'm a little surprised, to be honest.

I found him great because of the lore setup he received. It was a perfect Souls moment for me. Fighting someone whou, in their prime, wouldn't have even broken a sweat taking you out, but even with a broken arm and half his mind gone, he's still a great challenge.
It was also a pretty fun and satisfying fight because it's one of the ones where I kept dying until eventually I beat him without taking a single hit.
>>
>>320617572
This fabulously.

The fucking lore man. Shit got me thinking for weeks after I read up about it.
>>
>>320617572
>Fighting someone whou, in their prime, wouldn't have even broken a sweat taking you out
You realize his "story" is fabricated and the Chosen Undead is the one who did the deeds he was dubbed Abysswalker for, right?
Elizabeth the Shroom pretty much tells you this when you talk to her after killing Manus.
Artorias is a chump like Oscar and the Chosen Undead is actually the badass behind all great deeds they got marketing for.
>>
>>320617572
He was by far my favorite boss of all time. I straight up play through the game just to fight him. I did a bow only run and stopped after him because it's all I wanted to do. I love the way the fight feels like a dance when you are in the flow of it.
I say was though because I love Ludwig even more. Lorewise isn't as great but the presentation and transition in that fight is amazing
>>
>>320617572
>someone who in their prime wouldn't have broken a sweat killing you
Artorias lost to Manus in his prime, and you beat Manus. Therefore, you would be able to beat Artorias in his prime.

Gehrman is my favourite boss of the franchise for me. The location, music and his moveset are GOAT. The petals flying around after his sweeps are fucking great. His dialogue before the fight, too.
Fuck. I only wish he was a little tougher. Felt like a DMC boss to me though.

>>

>>
>>320617898
That fucking music too. Holy shit. Seriously the most intense song in the series. When it picked up he did the double blade beam with the music which felt really cool too
>>
>>320617812
Not to mention he lost to Manus even with the help of Sif and a shield with some of the highest stability in the game.

People overrate Artorias's peak strength.
>>
>>320610689
>Parrying bosses
you probably couldn't beat Gwyn without parrying either
>>
>>320618026
Manus was dead. When they revived him, whatever evil magic they used had a side-effect of making his humanity explode in power ("running wild"). It got so powerful that it generated an Abyss 1000 years too early, while the Flame was still going relatively strong. He was dormant, but he's more powerful than he's ever been. He was just a mortal man before, now he's an xboxhueg monster with mega-sorceries

most of the original bosses from DeS/DaS were in this category, with limited movesets, highly telegraphed attacks, gimmicks, etc

there were some epic fights at the time though. say what you will about DaS2 being inferior, the one area they improved on big time was boss fights being more interesting (just wish they had more variety instead of being humanoid, but they were mostly fun).

You didn't go that far back so Gough would be in his prime. Artorias was already corrupted when you arrived and the place is many years after Oolacile was swallowed up by the dark.
You're just there to perform cleanup duty and put them out of their misery.

Then why send Artorias, who is like practically a god (see: his size and longevity), to take him out? And why refer to him as Abysswalker? Clearly he'd be sent to Oolacile to clean up shop.

>>320618324
>>characters literally tell you they are from the past: dusk, chester, elizabeth
No I'm not debating that there are time-warp shenanigans, but it doesn't add up for me.
It's undeniable that Artorias was pretty fucking strong even with a broken arm and no companion. I actually didn't find Manus as difficult, personally. So one must acknowledge he'd be significantly more powerful at his peak (though I doubt he'd be hostile).
It stands to reason then that, when Manus pushed his shit in, he was at a stronger state than when the Chosen Undead finds him.
>>
>>320607678

the element i liked about the farming though is that it really encouraged co-op on that fight. going in with 4 knights + 2 coops was fun as fuck.

too bad coop feels few and far between on most DLC areas because SM gets unpredictable late game. another reason SM is retarded.

anyone know if DaS3 is going to base multiplayer on SL vs SM?

As long as he hasn't got you backed into a corner you just run as far away as you can when he does the AoE and you're good. Aside from that you can just stick at a safe distance and the moment he gives an opening you run in and wail on him until it's time to run away again.

>why send Artorias to take out a mortal man
he was ONCE mortal. The whole point is that the magic that the Oolacile Sorcerers used changed things. He was transformed into a monster. He was once mortal, but he certainly isn't any more.

Artorias was awarded the title "Abysswalker" for his actions in New Londo, killing Darkwraiths, not for getting punked in Oolacile. He had been hunting Darkwraiths in New Londo for quite some time before heading off to Oolacile.

huge snakes wandering the Nightmare is from Madara's whistle.

IIRC the official guide for BB states that the spider people in the Mensis were Mensis experiments (this includes Patches)

Ornstein and Smough will always be my favorite. Some other great fights in the series are Penetrator, False King Allant, Flamelurker, Artorias, Logarius, Gerhman and Orphan.
>>

it felt like cheesing because he just spams the move over and over, hence why it's a lame as fuck fight. you feel like you are abusing the moveset. not good design IMO

maybe snake magic is the poor alternative to real arcane magic from the great ones, Kind of like pyromancy compared to sorcery in the souls series.

Right so he did get dunked by Manus, AFTER he became a
>xboxhueg monster with mega-sorceries

So Artorias wasn't a little bitch for losing to him. Guy was pretty fucking tough. And I'd argue he (Manus) was a lot stronger in the peak period of Darkness, with so much to corrupt and change, than he is when you find him.

Really fun boss that was specifically designed to fuck your shit up and didn't turn out to be meme tier like Artorias. Ivory King is also up there and is fun as hell, i just wish they would have actually made him hard like Fume.

Admittedly i have not played BB, that game looks like it has a couple of fun fights like Gherman, Maria and Orphan, that is they would be cool if that fucking retard didn't make it possible to parry spam them. Way to ruin your gamer moron.

you fight Manus IN the peak period of Darkness, though. The Abyss is voraciously spreading, Gough and Elizabeth tell you as much. You fight Manus at the absolute peak of his power, and win.

Yeah you might be right.
The only card left I have in my deck is that Artorias may have lost because he was defending baby Sif. Which is certainly a factor. Again, we can't deny Artorias was a tough fight for having only half his mind and body.
>>
BB DLC has been throwing a lot at me, but I think honestly the best fight in these games is Orpan of Kos. The atmosphere is unbeatable and the fight itself is really challenging imo. Also the premise of it is fucking awesome and the music is 10/10.

I have a question guys,

Whats the difference between being hollow and being undead, aren't they the same thing??
>>
>>320619472
Being undead means you have the dark sign or whatever. You are forever cursed to keep dying and coming back to life.

Going hollow basically means losing your sanity, what makes you human.
>>
>>320619472
All Hollowed are Undead, but not all Undead are Hollowed.
Hollowed is when you're all ugly and withered looking. And, in more extreme cases, when Undead become crazy and violent.
They kind of become like Feral Ghouls, if you want an analogy
>>
>>320619338
Mechanically I agree that he is pretty much objectively the best boss. Crazy aggression and tons of movements and the ability to change up pretty much any combo midway. Tons of fun. I like the arena too. Not my favorite fight though. Probably because I had a pretty easy time dodging him

>>
I'm just glad so far we can agree the maneaters from demon souls were bullshit.
>>
>>320618096
It's more like they underrate the Choosen Undead's strength.
Artorias in his prime would probably be on the same level of difficulty as Manus' bossfight, but if the Choosen Undead can overcome Manus, then he can overcome Artorias..
>>
>>320619472
Undead means you are afflicted by the curse and cannot die, Hollow means you have been Undead for so long or died so many times that you have lost your souls and all sense of being.

Basically Hollowing is what eventually happens to those who turn undead. How fast you hollow depends on how strong your soul was to begin with, some like the Chosen Undead or the Bearer of the Curse can die multiple times without ever going truly hollow. Getting souls keeps you from turning hollow but once you do there is no way back.

Hey guys.

So, I figured you guys would appreciate this. My friend is a journalist in Chile and somehow managed to score an interview with Miyazaki. Sure, here you go.

>[INTERVIEWER NAME WITHHELD BY REQUEST] asked me for advice when he was going to interview Demon's Souls and Dark Souls director Hidetaki Miyazaki, as he had not played any of the Souls' games. All questions were provided by me, Anon.

>1. - Your games are often noted for their punishing but fair difficulty. Can you tell us what inspired you to go this direction?

>HM: I consider the difficulty as something for players to overcome to achieve a sense of accomplishment. It doesn't mean that I want to punish them.

>My ideal is for players to overcome the challenge through effort and strategy, thus allowing them to experience a sense of achievement. For this to be possible, the level of difficulty needs to be something that is manageable and fair.

>The players won't bother to put in time and effort if the difficulty is unfair. It just wouldn't work.
>2. - Bloodborne is a brand new IP. Did you decide to move away from the 'souls' name purposefully? And why?

>HM: This is something that was agreed upon from the beginning with the publisher SCE.

>Previously, we worked together on a title called Demon’s Souls, but for this new project we didn’t want to be restricted by the earlier game.

>We freed ourselves by defining the new project as something not intended to succeed Demon’s Souls, but not something that should be afraid of being similar to Demon’s Souls either.
1/3
>>
>>320621696
>3. - Bloodborne takes place in a gothic Victorian setting as opposed to the medieval settings in the souls games. Why did you choose this?

>HM: First of all, we chose this setting based on the game design.

>One of the themes we had in mind from the early stages of production was to make combat more active and deadly. In order to do so, we got rid of the shield and replaced it with a gun.

>We chose this era based on our decision to adopt guns.

>In order for the combat to be more active and deadly, we needed our guns to be different from those in regular shooter games. They needed to be closely tied with melee weapons.

>That’s why the Victorian era felt like the right choice, as people see it as an era with older kinds of guns.

>Of course, another reason was that we simply like the time period.

>We found Gothic and Victorian settings to be very appealing since we wanted to create a world that could only be achieved by the power of PS4. This was something that just wasn't possible before.
>4. - This is the second collaboration between Sony Japan and From Software, the first being on Demon's Souls. What was it like returning after several years?

>HM: I had a lot of fun this time around as well.

>SCE trusted us on the entire production, and they supported us in so many ways: from orchestra recording and debugging to play testing and supporting us during each phase of production.

>Especially toward the end of development, a lot of the staff members became the first fans of the game, so that was a big deal.

>I am truly grateful to SCE for their tireless efforts in promoting the game worldwide.

>I would love to collaborate again with SCE if they don't mind. (Laughs)

2/3
>>
>>320621696
>>320621781

>5. - You've commented many times on making your games memorable and that difficulty was never the point. What makes a game memorable to you?

>HM: I believe that a game is something that gives meaning to the actions you take.

>So a memorable game might be something that gives special meaning to the actions you take.

>"Powerful," "unique," "priceless." However you describe it, I wanted to create a game that gives special meaning to its players.

>We're only partway there and things have just started, however.
>6. - In times of stagnation, many developers look back to games they played when they were younger to look for inspiration. What are some games you hold dear to you? Why?

>HM: It would have to be the gamebook series called Sorcery!

>Sorcery! was my first experience with fantasy worlds and fantasy games. Along with Monster Encyclopedia and Titan, which served as the game’s reference materials, those games turned me into the dreamer I am now.

>Looking back, I still think Sorcery! was a great fantasy game.

>If it hadn’t been so great, I might not have gotten interested in the genre.

>If we limit the discussion just to video games, the story changes quite a bit. But most of my experience comes from back when I was in my late teens.

And that's it. I really wish I had played BB when he asked me to provide questions for him. I want to ask him about the removal of shields, the bait'n'switch of the Lovecraft stuff, and so much more.

My fanwank is they're a group who broke away from Yahar'gul. Byrgenwerth didn't worship the Great Ones at all, Healing Church venerated them but worshipped the blood more, School of Mensis outright praised them, but Hemwick turned it up to 11 and went full demonic cult surrounding them.

Since this thread is at 209 can we have a discussion about so-called Meme boss fights in souls? I mean the ones where the fight isn't difficult but it's more figuring out the sweet spot or exactly how to kill them. I'm talking Ceaseless, Ancient Dragon, Fool's Idol, to a lesser extent Pinwheel/Executioner's Chariot.

>>
>>320626825
it's a "feature" that they implemented in BB. Basically how a boss changes/improves their attacks during certain portions of a fight.

Example: Father G turning into a beast halfway through the fight, or Maria going from normal attacks > added blood > added fire. In DS3, the Dancer eventually obtains another sword that augments her attacks halfway through the fight.
>>
>>320630828
yeah, but they didn't really need to make the area PITCH BLACK. Half the difficulty in ToTG was just not being to see jack shit. BB did it fine with dark areas - torches optional, but definitely aided in vision if you really needed it (it even gave you lamp if you didn't want to carry a torch).
>>
>>320601446
Manus is my favorite too. Using the pendant was a cool gimmick too. I love the fast paced fights.
