Man, I WANTED to love Undertale. I really do like RPGs typically, but the characters have to resonate with me, and so does the story. Having characters act like I slaughtered entire villages just because I killed ONE frog at the very beginning is ridiculous, and it took me out of the game whenever it happened. They specifically say that you killed at least SEVERAL things, if you go neutral.

It only gets referenced a handful of times throughout the story, and it affects the ending. It still takes you completely out of the game when characters act like you killed dozens when you only killed one.

Yes, even that ONE, TINY, FROG. All you had to do was just restart everything all over and wipe the file then do it again to get another swing at it. The game has a phenomenal gurren lagann style ending and even has some of the best music I've heard since Chrono Cross. Granted there are a few shoehorned dumblr themes but you can ignore this and play the game like an adult and get the true pacifist ending for one hell of an experience. If you really DID WANT to like it, my only suggestion is to play through it again and don't kill a damn thing.

The game ABSOLUTELY tries EVERYTHING to make you go pacifist or neutral. Even during genocide, it's constantly dropping hints that your decision is stupid and void, and still tries to push you along the neutral path. If you so much as make a single mistake against Mettaton Neo, the genocide run is ruined by default, in fact. That's railroading. Why even have a path in the game just so you can constantly criticize and try to redirect the player throughout it? All because you think you can predict why they're doing it or how they feel? That sort of manipulation is cheap.
As for Sans, you don't give him enough credit. He's not a creature of revenge or malice. His primary concern is to get you to quit, to preserve the timelines and make sure you don't keep doing what you're doing. But even when he offers you the IN-GAME option of turning yourself around, he goes and kills you as if that's NOT gonna make you wanna come back and see the genocide run through. You see what I'm saying? Sans could have achieved what he wanted right there, but he chose to make matters worse. The narrative folds in on itself all because Toby couldn't think of a proper way to deal with the player at that point of the story, because he was too focused on the black-and-white implications of your prior choices.
