Will buy any game on steam for someone who can get my R9 Fury to work on a linux distro

So far I've tried both openSUSE and mint, both get an x server error during installation and give me a black screen after installation if I boot with the card plugged in. The card works perfectly in windows. So far I've tried updating the kernel to 4.3.3 which did not solve anything, and was unable to download the drivers since I can't use the OS with the card plugged in. I'm pretty terrible with linux and have mostly no idea what I am doing so please take that in mind when giving me a step by step guide to doing this. I am willing to use any distro, but would prefer mint since I already have that installed (17.3). If you need more information on my system just ask. First person to give me a guide that works can have any game on steam they want, or multiple games with a total of about $60. Or an item off the marketplace if you don't mind waiting for the no-trade period to end. Hopefully its not against the rules to offer a reward for help, but I am just so frustrated right now and haven't gotten any useful help in the past week of trying to fix this shit. Be sure to include your steam name or a junk email in your post so I can contact you

I want to be a linux gamer ;_;

I wish you luck, friend.

You have to run the installation as the admin user, try this tutorial:

Let me know if it works.

Mint is based on Ubuntu so this method should also work on Mint.

Have you simply tried using the Driver Manager?
I remember using third-party drivers because AMD's were shit when I installed some AMD drivers on my brother's Mint.

Get Nvidia for linux. id/blutig_ritter
>>
open vnc or teamviewer m8 and ill help u
>>
>>320567810
When I open driver manager its blank

>>320565186
this doesn't work since the driver installer wants me to have the card plugged in to run, but when I plug it in I get a black screen

Here is your problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/3rhu20/amd_please_give_an_eta_on_linux_driver_support/

You need to upgrade your kernel to 4.3 for the driver to work.

Here is a guide to upgrade it: https://mintguide.org/system/517-install-linux-kernel-4-3-stable-on-linux-mint.html.
>>
>>320568284
My kernel is currently 4.3.3 unless I installed it incorrectly, will give it another shot
>>
>>320567810
Mint should have open source drivers that work with AMD cards, so your screens shouldn't be black.

Do you get to the GRUB with the card plugged in at least?
>>
>>320568667
I do not, I'm getting nothing at all. From what I've gathered its an issue with Fury cards and older kernels but 4.3.3 isn't working either
>>
>>320568894
In all honesty, AMD's record with Linux Support isn't too impressive and with the Fury not having much success in linux to begin with isn't a good sign.

I assume you've asked /g/ for help already.
>>
>>320569296
haven't asked /g/ since they seem pretty anti tech support

going to try a fresh install and go straight to 4.3 to see if that works, if not going to try arch and see if that works
