Except they aren't. Squeenix knows that Smash is one of the biggest ways to advertise cloud so they agreed to allow him in smash. If FF VII wasn't coming out Geno and cloud would be in smash at all.

This right here is the true purpose of mii fighters. No, you can't make everybody, especially with those proportions. But you can make a lot of characters now with varied movesets and balances. Just because nobody touches the custom equipment doesn't mean you shouldn't for your own personal enjoyment.
