Tons of padded filler and backtracking, generally a lower level of quality compared to the first game which is miles better in terms of polish.
Still one of the greatest games of all time though.
It went on for a bit too long. The backtracking and shit regarding Doolis' name was pretty irritating.
Not enough Luigi and adventures, they design these interesting unique sprites for characters and the most they get is about 10 seconds of screentime and one or two snarky comments.

Pretty sure you already find this out in one of the chapter interludes (maybe it was the chapter after you stopped playing, I forget), but within the door is a long ass final dungeon followed by boss fights with Grodus, Bowser, and then a 1,000 year-old demon related to the Shadow Sirens (like Vivian) who possesses Peach and serves as the final boss.
It's a massively insane difficulty spike too, I remember having to quit the game for a year as a kid because I couldn't fucking beat her.

The game is amazing, so most flaws end up being little nitpicks. It's still fun to see where things could be improved.

flurrie is literally the worst design for anything ever
Whenever I feel the urge to replay this I get super hype nostalgia going through it until I open the door and the onslaught of war flashbacks from how hard this was keeps me from continuing. I'm a scrub, /v/.

Power bounce is actually worse in TTYD, there's a hard-coded random limit to your total bounces. Usually it caps out at like 7 or so.

Yeah there's the scripted scene where she stops being invincible but even then unless you grinded super hard or did pit of 100 trials, she was a hard boss.

it does raise a question though of what's a suitable reward for optional content like that that's harder than the final boss, takes a fuckload of time to get, but can be done before beating the game.

Every enemy has a loose power bounce cap. It's just in the original paper mario it was abnormally high for normal enemies and only set reasonably for bosses. Ttyd keeps it a bit more consistent across the board.

I agree on Ms Mowz but I still get her just because she can steal items and her theme is nice. Goombella is just as useless as soon as you get the badge to see enemies HP.

I beat her on my first try when I played it as a kid, then I beat her on my first try again when I played it as an adult. I didn't grind at all.
When I played it as a kid I didn't even know about the parry/dodge they added because I skipped over the tutorial.

I really liked how they changed the combat to allow you much more freedom in how you wanted to build your character compared to PM1, it doesn't have that ridiculously slow beginning where you don't get timed hits until over an hour into the game, and it has a much better story.
