I bought it when it was on sale and couldn't ignordit. It's alright, still seems best played with no mounted units which seems pretty silly considering. Maybe more historic but more boring. The boat combat is also meh, and most of the time involved me or half my army ending up in the ocean. I'm waiting for the newer version of that pirate game to go onsail.

I like to make a character in Khergit Khanate and then imagine myself as a mongol general.

I had a playthrough where most of the time was spent fucking with their faction. Merc'd for a while, caved to Nords and became a lord eventually, long illustrious career until my character got taken by Kherjit in defence of a city (with only my mostly injured retinue as back up) then peace was declared the day or two after. Was stuck in the dungeon for years it felt like, regular messages of guard beatings and abuse, the lot.
When I could finally play again I spent ludicrous money on a small band of high tier mercs and took to raiding shitty lords that participated in my defeat, hoping to recruit prisoners. Built up from there to cities, castles, not holding anything just building up funds and an elite army (in some cases pretending I was rescuing lost troops) to shit on the faction that ruined me. When they declared war on a faction, I'd aid the opposition's battles, chase down outlier lords, anything to keep them from continuing to snowball the map.
Really fun save honestly, makes more of a case for emergent gameplay than most titles that advertise it.
