It proves that you need to be popular and have enough unique characteristics to make you stand out from the rest of the roster. Bayonetta fulfills both categories. Shovel Knight fulfills only the first category while Shantae fulfills neither.
I still wanted at least Wolf, Snake and Ice Climbers back and I was really expecting at least one of them. A new Star Fox game coming out would have been a great reason for Wolf to be back. Ice Climbers I just sorta miss and I wouldn't have mind if it was just one climber, thanks 3DS. Snake I really wanted back and to hang with all the other 3rd party fighters. I wonder if Nintendo did try, Kojima wanted Snake back in but didn't do much expect tell Sakurai through some live event, probably Kojima Station.
