I'm itching to play a good SRPG. Any recommendations?
Pic related, I've never played any of the Disgaea games before. Should I start with the first one or is there a better entry point?
If you don't mind grindan and a fairly silly story, go for it.
For something more serious in tone or mechanics, I recommend Tactics ogre on PSP.

I'm playing Disgaea 4 and I'm pretty deep into post game. Anyone know a lot about it and willing to answer a few questions?

I'm pretty new to the genre. I really enjoyed Fire Emblem: Awakening. Then I tried Jeanne D'arc and loved that too. I took a couple cracks at Final Fantasy Tactics, and it didn't grab me. I really liked the positional tactics of FE and Jeanne D'arc. Flanking and teaming up with allies and whatnot.

Disgaea is very polished and has a fun enough story, but goddamn the "strategy" is nonexistent. Play Devil Survivor for a better SRPG.
Play Fire Emblem. For FE start with 7 as it has a lengthy tutorial in the first half that can be annoying after playing others in the series.
hows the PS4 Disgaea? Haven't heard anyone talk about it and this board can be a real weeb party at times.

I am playing the PS4 version and I like a lot of what they added from 3 magichange/monster fusion/dual magichange can be really fun. My major complaint is honestly about the main character Valvatorez, his character is effectively set in stone and makes no progress or changes as the story progresses. By the end game it feels like I have known everything I needed to know that made Val who Val is because there's no character progression with him at all, unlike "Vulcanus" or Desco/Fuka

If you're autistic and like wanking to large stats, then Disgaea is the game for you. If you want actual depth and strategy, play any other SRPG.

I highly recommend Front Mission 4. It's a very good game and positioning/team attacks are important.
Both Fire Emblem Awakening and Jeanne D'arc are pretty bad in my (correct) opinion so I guess we have very different tastes. I guess you might actually like Disgaea but I still don't recommend it if you're looking for a SRPG.

the first is mechanically the weakest but the story is the only one that has any charm. the games are fucking amazing tho, especially starting at 2 where the mechanics that you see in the rest of the series fall into place.
i'd start with 4 honestly. if you got a vita thats a good place to play it.

No Super Robot Wars/Taisen?
You guys are dumb faggots.
OG1 and 2 have official translations, and are sadly, hard to come across and GBA.
SRW J (fairly easy, but has series that people might like, such as G Gundam) is gba, and translated, but fan translated, and never released in the west.
SRW3, for SNES, is also translated, but has the same "hitting yourself in the dick with a hammer" factor as some Fire Emblem SNES titles. (Clunky, hard as balls, generally dated)
@Gaiden is probably the prettiest one translated, although it lacks quality of life interface features from later games, like the GBA ones.
All have large casts of Giant Robot show characters mashed up in an unholy mire of fan service, and what is essentially "sanctioned fanfic". Even has literal "Original Characters" which frequently resemble, but USUALLY do not step on the toes of the non banpresto guys too much in spite of being the MC unit.
But yeah, it's a fucking mess, fun. But a mess. I mean, when you get "several Gundam Series, and several Mazinger Series, and serveral combiner robots, some fucking Macross, oh hey! lets throw Evangelion in too!" it gets messy.
On the plus side any given character is less of a little bitch or failure of a human being than they otherwise would be because hey! healthy work environment with Manly Men and people who aren't dicks!. (Shinji is consistently, in the end, actually kind of badass, for Shinji because 70's Super Robot pilots tell him to stop being such a little pussy, basically.)

This game right here. It's all about strategy than doing high damage. Every class kind of suck but it's not about doing sending out your strong characters and doing high as fuck damage. Its more of needing certain classes and/or their skills, which can be swapped around with skill customization from other classes after learning them kind of like FFT, to get through a battle. Things like pushing or pulling enemies/objects, sneaking past enemies, grappling hooking yourself from place to place, ect. Mixing different skills with different classes can get you some pretty awesome characters.

Is Stella Glow worth a play? Is it comparable to something like FFT but more lighthearted?

I think you'd like Front Mission 4 the best because of the link attack system - you designate which of your party members will participate in a team attack when each of your characters attacks, plus you want to attack from behind/out of enemy counterattack range. So there's a big focus on the stuff you say you're looking for.
Front Mission 2 is also very good but the interface isn't so nice and the translation patch is bad, whereas Front Mission 4 has more polish and was officially released in English.
Front Mission 5 might be a bit better overall but the story is heavily linked to the whole series so play it later.
Avoid Front Mission 3, it's bad.
Fire Emblem Awakening is bad for a number of reasons. The Fire Emblem series is overall very good but in Awakening the series' best feature, the level design, was totally ignored. Every map played the same. And the gameplay mechanics and lack of character/class balance make the tactical depth pretty shallow. To say nothing about the story/characters.
Jeanne D'Arc is a pretty lackluster game in all respects (though I guess it's pretty polished). The gameplay is simple and the levels are repetitive so it felt rather tedious to me. There's just not a lot going for it.

Warsong isn't very good but the sequel, Langrisser II, is a huge improvement. Alternatively play Der Langrisser if you prefer story over gameplay. Langrisser IV is also good.

The Luminous Arc games for the DS are ok if you want a short and simple srpg. Nothing deep or complex story wise or gameplay. Just a very average srpg. Also waifu's if that's your thing.

When I first read this I didn't mind too much of it but when I read about the ISO size that kind of put me off. Basically the game is around 300MB but the Jap version is a little over 1GB. So that means there must of been a lot of dialogue removed.

Summon Knight 5 is about 20-30 hours from what I read if you don't mind paying 31$ for a psp game with cut voices and cut dlc.

It took me 3 or 4 tries but it finally clicked (i did play and beast disgaea psp first tho)
Fft has a lot of mechanics that simply dont matter unless youre autistic. Start the game, delete your stock party and sell their equipment, hire 3 people with 65+ brave and 2 with 65 faith. Make ramza a monk after you get steel in chapter 2 and keep a 2nd save file a few battles behind your current and you can experience one of the best stories ff has to offer.
