Even though he's loosely based on a real-life Englishman, in the context of the plot he's meant to be Eurasian (American father, I think). But yeah, his cultural identity will probably play into the story, at least somewhat.
Originally when it was intended as a SRPG for the PS3 launch, the game was based on a half-finished script by Akira Kurosawa that his son had finished, but that hasn't been mentioned by any of the involved parties since the re-reveal a few months ago, so that might be off the table now, sadly.

Yeah, but don't hold your breath over it. They made a big deal about the Kurosawa connection back during the original reveal, but as I said, neither Sony or KT have mentioned it since the game's resurrection, so that's probably kinda telling ;_;
The AI looks really slow and boring, they don't attack and attacking them while they're wielding doesn't punish you or require any timing.
Maybe if the enemies actually did something I'd be inclined to hype.
