Actual fighting game player here, been playing SF/GG/Tekken/SC for 15 years, no stake in DOAX3. Just wanted to explain why DOA4 is a shit game (DOA5 isn't much better, but I digress).
First of all, DOA4 made it to EVO because it came out in the middle of the "Dark Ages", what the FGC refers to thee mid 2000s as. During the dark ages, competitive fightan was on life support, and EVO wasn't even a fifth of the event it is now. The only reason DOA4 was accepted at EVO is because it was one of the only new fighting games, so they basically tried everything. However, DOA4 is commonly acknowledged as a trash fighting game by the FGC at large. Broken balance that heavily favors ninjas, a ridiculous counter system that threw "get-out-of-jail" free cards at bad players who made constant guesses, a ruined okizeme (not explaining what that is, if you actually play fighting games you'll know), and a braindead combo system. DOA5 is no amazing fighter, but it actively addressed DOA4s flaws, hell, the critical and stun mechanics are DOA5's saving grace from DOA4's atrocious design. Btw, the only DOA worth squat from a competitive standpoint is DOAU2.
tl;dr You are a filthy casual, you don't know anything about fighting games, you probably think it's ok to play on pad.
