The point of extremely high framerates in games like FPS is gameplay and ensuring reaction time isn't limited, dealing with screen tearing at extremely high rates of movement, etc. And even then, the REAL issue is that when most people talk "FPS" they're talking AVERAGES not minimum, 60 FPS is fine for nearly anything so long as it's perfectly consistent (as serious games requiring single frame timing aim for). Most people can't consistently hit a single frame 1/60 anyway, just look at fighters. If a game is 90-100 FPS on average, then the minimum is probably 60+ which is what matters, whereas most games when they're "60 fps" means sometimes much higher, sometimes lag.
Now though we've got fags insistent on it as a yet another meaningless spec number that has to be slapped on everything no matter what even when it's actively harmful. Fucking stupid.

More the point, it's not at all unsurprising when it's an actual PORT, as opposed to a title developed to be multiplat (even with delayed exclusivity) from the start. Part of the entire advantage of consoles to make up for their lower relative power is being able to take advantage of optimizations and hardcoding and low level dependencies that would not be possible to do reliably or economically on the PC. That's why a console can have games that look a lot better then a PC of equivalent power would have (though obviously much worse then a later gen high power PC would do easily).
That can make it significantly more difficult to make work on a PC though after the fact, if certain assumptions were coded in at a low level. It's a tradeoff and not an unusual one in tech, you see it a lot in old but still important business applications too unfortunately. That's one of the reasons IBM still makes major dosh on mainframes: backwards compatibility literally back to around the late Nineteen-SEVENTIES.

Actually, I bought a Dell Ultrasharp 1440p screen a few years back when 144/120HZ was pretty much limited to TN or IPS but only 1080p.
High refresh rates aren't even as good as companies would have you believe a LOT of them have bad ghosting between frames. Some of them skip frames alltogether in some instances. There is also the fact that it's only good if you can actually push over the refresh rate. For 1080p it's fine but goodluck pushing 144fps at 4k or 1440p.
Honestly I would rather run a game at ultra 60fps 4k/1440p then low 144fps or lower resolutions. Unless your playing extremely competitively like your actually playing in tournaments or some crap those few extra frames aren't going to matter that much.
Good players can get by with 60fps just fine, the main difference is that it feels a little smoother but the difference for reaction speed is not as large as people would have you believe. Ping is the biggest factor, I am sadly limited by this shitty undersea cable which gives me an extra 300ping on any server overseas.
That is what needs to be improved the most for competitive gaming, better pings globally. It's extremely frustrating to see something come towards you, you time a block or something perfectly and die anyway.

It's a massive jump from 60 to 120 but from 120 to 144 it's less perceptible while features like strobing for blur reduction become more important - provided you get stable FPS. The problem are also frame drops at anything but games with 10 year old visuals (like CS:GO) - there's nothing worse than dropping framerate as it leads to a change in perceived fluidity, making the game seem stutter or feel unresponsive at times.

Buying a higher resolution IPS panel display was one of the best upgrades I've ever purchased. Games looking fucking gorgeous at higher resolution with better color accuracy, oh and so does everything else besides video games.

AT BEST I'd get slightly over 80 FPS in caves and such.
If you want a consistent 60 FPS in the open field, you need at least an R9 390 or a GTX 970.

Are you illiterate? I never implied at all that framerate be tied to tick rate you mong. The implication is that while your PC is rendering a scene at 144fps, it's still bottlencked by the server which is delivering actual server side data like hit detection, player location, etc at a refresh rate far under 144fps. And this only applies in twitch shooter garbage anyway, the only genre where a high frame rate has any practical effect on gameplay.

Even back when I had 8 GB I could leave it on overnight and RAM usage would still only hover around 6.5 GB total usage.
It also runs like SHIT in cities.

I'd recommend you keep tessellation and the ultra mode settings off, considering in total they eat a good 20 FPS and don't add much to the visuals (for instance, tessellation only makes the distant mountains look slightly less shitty.
