Sony was the first of the "big three" to realize that PC and consoles don't actually compete. Console gamers have their reasons to play on console, and PC gamers have their reason to play on PC.
So instead of wasting money trying to get PC gamers to switch to PlayStation, they release some of their exclusives on PC for some extra profit.
Hell, I mean, Sony has made what could arguably be considered some of the most important PC games ever. Planetside was incredibly ahead of it's time and Planetside 2 set the standard for MMOFPS games, and EverQuest paved the way for World of Warcraft as well as just about every MMO in existence today.
I don't agree with a lot of Sony's choices this generation, and don't own a PS4, but Sony has always known there is money to be made from the PC.

Three points: First of all, SCE is stingy. They have been very conservative in their spending in recent years, I believe that's why they didn't pay for full exclusivity. And of course they have been time-exclusive moneyhatting the fuck out of everything.
Second; PCs and consoles do compete on some level, that's why there is always a gap between releases. PC does hurt full price sales.
Third; Andrew House prioritizes crashing the Xbox. And he is. I am not even shitposting, he is forcing MS out of the industry. That's why Phil had to even address the fact that the Xbox might not see another console.
