I was reading on their forums and one of the devs said they probably want to do console versions, but that they design for PC and would then port it to console, and make necessary changes to those versions.

I'd be interested to see how SS1 would be mapped to the controller. I actually like 1's controls but they could be simplified to work that way without actually sacrificing anything, like stance being handled with 1 button like in any other game instead of 3, or a toggle for leaning like Dishonored did.

One of the things I'm curious about is how they'll deal with SS2's ending. Maybe SS3 will begin with a remake of SS2's ending which uses the original script and cut zero-g segments on the outside of the ship.

>>
>>320381836
you might have had a supply of blank tiny chips and she just uploaded more data to them for you to use
>>
>>320381883
You must spend exactly six cybernetic modules before you can pull the trigger on that pistol you found 20 minutes ago, but you must spend exactly 30 more modules to pull the trigger on this shotgun you just found, because that makes sense, even though the fucking mutants are using them just fine.
And standard weapons are totally overpowered. You find them earliest, they have the most ammo, they have different ammo types to take on any kind of monster, and they do plenty of damage. You might think there's some benefit to, say, exotic weapons, but their all situational as fuck and they're all mid-later game weapons, at which point you probably already invested in Standard and have the assault rifle. Not to mention, you have to research exotic weapons to use them, they can't even harm the final boss, and the ranged ones are useless against mechanical enemies. So if you decided you want to use exotic weapons, you fucked up. Basically the same thing with energy weapons but they're less useless.
And that's not the only thing. So many psi powers are trivial but require a shit ton of modules to unlock. In my experience repair and maintenance might as well have been a single skill.

SS1 benefited from the simplicity of its character progression. Every advance comes from your equipment, which you find while exploring. You don't have to hold off on using this exciting new weapon or hardware until you meet some arbitrary point requirement, and it's not a gamble of whether or not it will be a totally worthless waste of said points.

They changed so many game mechanics between the original and the sequel that they're honestly apples and oranges to comparison.

Me, I liked SS more but the UI and controls are unintuitive (YES, it is a product of its time). If you can forgive that, the gunplay is surprisingly fun and original. However, it's not much of an RPG, there's no class building and all gear progression is static to every playthrough.

If you start with SS2, the intro gives you all the plot of SS you need and you probably know all you need to know about SS2 because of how much /v/ and /vr/ masturbate to it. SS2 is not bad in many ways but it is very different and lacks player assistance, A.K.A. not for casuals.

I hated SS2 the first time I tried it, but I came back with more patience and a better understanding of the class building and I had a great playthrough.

If you discussed this with 10 different people, you'd get 10 different answers. Best advice: get SS (cheap as SS2) and go into it with an open mind and a lot of patience. If you chose SS2 to test as well and you don't like it either, you should consider not playing games from that era. It's not for everyone, and that's okay.
>>
>>320391514
It's not made by irrational it is made by a studio that nobody knows what it's capable of. That's why people are somewhat hyped, if it was made by someone like EA everyone would be shitting on it.
>>
>>320392790
>it's not much of an RPG
There's no real reason to expect it to be, other than the sequel having RPG elements. I mean, the game was inspired by the likes of Legend of Zelda, gear progression wise.
>>
>>320391018
>>320391854
>If there's any dev that could pull the jo, it's definitely OSE.
I don't exactly trust them since they haven't proven themselves as this new company but they haven't disproven them either which places them ahead of most devs I can think of.
I'd be comfortable with Arkane handling it.
>>
>>320393049
I'm on the fence about Arkane. I know it's partly Bethesda's fault, but still.
And OSE is far from perfect, much like Ion Storm once LGS moved on. I'm just saying they're the best.
>>
>>320392801
>Mentioning EA and Irrational in the same comment
That almost gave me an ulcer. Remember how Dead Space 3 went?
>>
>>320393989
Reminder that Dead Space was probably originally System Shock 3.
>>
>>320394340
It was definitely inspired by System Shock 2, but I wouldn't exactly say that makes it System Shock 3.
>>
>>320394527
This makes me think so, even if only at some early pre-production stage
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Shock_2#Sequel
>>
>>320394340
Almost forgot. LGS and EA originally had a much closer bond back in the day, i.e. Origin. Not to mention the copyright limbo System Shock was in for 15 years. Dead Space isn't at all far from the legacy of SS2.

Anyway the point I was (very poorly) getting at is that modern EA can (and indeed will) ruin everything with bullshit DRM, DLC and microtransactions. It could fall on its ass but seeing another company take the mantle for SS3 fills me with hope.

It's not even in beta yet, it's already been confirmed to get FOV sliders (and 90 FOV on PC by default) and if you'd been following it at all you'd know they're putting massive effort into world simulation elements. The prototype gameplay already looks promising keeping in mind they're all placeholder assets. Yeah it's all recorded with controllers because muh cinematic feel appeals to half the audience, doesn't mean they're not making an immersive sim for PC.
