I think the character model is fine, only the lighting of the game is off. That's something I genuinely believe can be improved over time. It's not like MN9 where they just started off with lazy models and animations.

Because it's easier to make a 2d image? Then it should be easier to make the entire game in 2d.
Because it's more appealing? Then the fact that they're making the game in 3D proves they don't care about the final quality of the game as much as marketing it on Kickstarter.
