People often criticize ME2 for not having any significant involvement in the plot, but I actually like that. A break from the inevitable to focus on Shepard and his comrades.

I liked it because of the focus on Shepard and his team. With some sort of galaxy-wide invasion a lot of time has to be given over to massive events that feel kind of 'faceless' thanks to their enormity, whereas ME2 focuses almost entirely upon Shepard and his relationship with his 12 desperadoes.
Not every game has to have some massive all-destroying threat to counter.

I'm not excited at all for Andromeda after how bad DA: I was, but I honestly loved the first three games. I even thought that Mass Effect 3 with the extended DLC was really underrated. The fleshed out ending is better than people gave it credit for. Yeah, I know, "HUR HUR DAMAGE CONTROL", but it turned something awful into something with a fair deal of closure that was thematically consistent with the rest of the series.

The 'exploration' art of Mass Effect 1 is really overhyped. I know the game is somewhat old but there's nothing fun about driving that clunky vehicle over 90 degree inclines just to get to some bunker or building that is the same design on each and every planet. I wouldn't mind if they brought back planet exploration in Andromeda if they made the planets fun to explore and not tedious and boring.
You know, I was kind of hoping for a more restrained plot with a character who wasn't THE CHOSEN ONE. Maybe take place on Earth after the events of ME3 where all the aliens are stranded with the humans on a ruined planet. You could start off as a police officer or scavenger or a few other choices, eventually building a team that has to deal with problems on Earth as they rebuild and try to find the aliens a way home. Would have been nice.

I don't care what anyone says about Mass Effect 3. I think that the pros vastly outweighed the cons. Playing through all of these games the first few times was probably some of the most fun I've ever had playing vidya. It's not as great now because all of the mystery and discovery is gone.

I think the worst part about Cerberus is Bioware not knowing what to do with them. First they're generic bad guys, then ME2 tries to characterize them a bit more, which was... alright. But then they're back to being generic bad guys and you can't do anything about it, since your choices never matter.

He's not a nice person and he pretty much completely lacks ethics, but he does genuinely want to help humanity from his position in the shadows in his own way.
And then in ME3 Cerberus is suddenly some massive military-industrial complex out of nowhere with fleets of warships and legions of Reaper-enhanced soldiers terrorizing planets and fucking over the Alliance and Shepard because lol bad guys.

Even in 2, Miranda states that there are only like 140 operatives in the entirety of Cerberus, but only 6 months later they have legions of Reaper-enhanced (ridiculous) super soldiers and tech that beats out any other civilization in the galaxy.
