I keep one with a low firmware to play PSP and PS1 games on.
You can mod newer firmware ones, but their modded PS1 support isnt as good. You get sound issues and all that.
My 1000 is pretty much a replacement PSP with another stick.
The 2000 is for games that require higher firmwares.

You can emulate PSP on PC really well too, including the MHP3rd. There's even the version specifically built for emulation that uses the HD PS3 assets.
