Bloodborne sucks at storytelling even worse than Dark Souls. It's fixated on telling how the situation got to that point rather than how people dealt with it.

Most of the lore is in the past, though, and without that you'd have no idea what the hell you are even doing in the game. Think you're just looking for reasons to be shitty with it. That, or you just don't like that way of story telling, but I highly doubt it's that

Depends on the protagonist's weapons.
It actually wouldn't be bad if it were done as a party of hunters going through the world rather than a single lone hunter.
But again, they'd need interesting weapons or else you end up with five saw cleavers and a few ludwig's. Make it interesting like the steak driver and whirligig and you'd have room to develop interesting scenes.

That and the fact that the PC is an outsider in a city full of people who hate outsiders. The whole point of the game is to find out what the fuck happened and I don't get how there are people who don't pay attention in the first minute of the game.
