I think Kojima's new game will be some kind of spiritual successor to Zone of the Enders with inspiration from Pacific Rim. Pacific Rim was one of Kojimas favorite movies of all time and you know how he likes his movies in his games.
The helmet does not look like your ordinary metal helmet, but rather, it seems to have gears and other high tech stuff happening near the cheek bone.
The skull inside the helmet makes it look like some kind of emblem for a task force, like "The Knights." Knights have been used in anime as a name for mech pilots or space rangers, like in Knights of Sidonia, or in the case of Code Geass, the mecha themselves are called Knightmares. If I were a mech pilot, I'd definitely use Kojima's logo as my emblem.
