The only games weapon durability really belongs in are hardcore survival games where you have to scrounge for every bit of food and water and ammo and you have to carefully conserve every resource.

In any other game it's just pointless busywork that you have to do between quests just because.

>>
>>320352951
With a keyboard it's absolutely possible and is really close to being pulled off successfully through a few different indie titles. With a controller it would be a lot more complicated but like having multiple different buttons as modifiers rather than a dedicated button like for example bumpers and triggers both being modifiers for other inputs so LT + button is different than LT + LB + button.
>>
>>320354169
Fuck yeah, segmented health is GOD TIER.

>Health only regens in the segment you are down to
>To fully recover health you still need to find/use first aid kits

Hell even health that only regens to a certain point is also good where you still need first aid kits to fully recover.

>Just Cause 2 health only regens up to the 30% mark
>GTAV only regens up to the 50% mark

Both of those options still worked out well while keeping the game challenging.

Economy. You either have way too much money or it's such a grind that it's pointless. Games are getting better at it but inevitably if you're sitting at the right amount the Awesome Thing +4 is worse than what you got grinding for the money.

I don't mind have all the money in the world but you never have to buy the best equipment usually you make/find it

Let me do something with the giant amounts of money I have like attach a stupid price tag to a broken weapon or let me buy something anything

Mass effect is so bad at the end of the first game after you get what you need its max credits then max Omnigel and then your still mining stuff for exp and the payout is like 4000 a gas cloud

Fallout could be modded to provide an alright mechanic. They just need to bump the cripple rate up 2x-3x globally.
>>
>Sword animation goes all the way through
>Does damage instead of actually being sliced in half

WOooow
>>
>>320357129
Mass Effect was a weird example because you do buy the best weapons in the game. The requisition officer on the Citadel sells the Spectre guns which are the best guns by far. If they toned back the sell prices of tier VI+ gear, the economy would have been fine.
>>
>>320357406
Nigga how boring would it be if swords actually did what they did in real life and just grievously wounded your enemies via slices and shit instead of chipping away at an invisible or visible health bar?

Actually that could be cool as fuck if the game were actually designed around that mechanic, like Bushido Blade.

Also multiple games actually do have satisfying as fuck cutting and delimbing, like Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden 2, and Metal Gear Rising.

I'd love to see a game where an average slice to the shoulder hits bone, bleeds profusely, and renders the arm limp. Where after a fight, they're almost always still alive and given up, and you sometimes have to make a moral decision to put them out of their misery before they bleed out or crawl around with one functioning arm and leg.
>>

>>
>>320351014

Weapons break fast, and you can repair them at the cost of HP, but money and HP potions are rare.

Severance Blade of Darkness. Parrying with your weapon damages it, and eventually breaks it. You can't see the weapon's durability, and it's a constant risk every time you parry a very strong enemy that it could be the attack that breaks your sword. Creating a risk/benefit analysis every time you parry.
>>

>>
>>320364161
>>320364239
de-limbing in a game will also be like, the only thing to get you a CERO Z rating, meaning it gets put on its special 18+ shelf that you have to be carded to buy. It's as bad as AO in America, except stores are still allowed to carry them. It's pretty much reserved for American games and then the super violent Japanese ones. So on these shelves, you'll find Skyrim, Grand Theft Auto, Assassin's Creed, and Ninja Gaiden 2.
>>
>>320364441
I guess its mostly just taboo, they'll decensor it on murrican shores

>>
>>320364781
Sorry, both people you replied to were me.

I would agree, except I don't really see people speaking out against games or anything. It's more like a tradition that nobody wants to change or acknowledge has changed culturally. Just like everything else in Japan. Just like how genitals are censored. It has nothing to do with sensibilities, it's just that nobody knows how to approach it to get it changed, and nobody has tried.

Also worth noting you can't have nudity in a game without a cero Z rating. This is why japanese games do not show nipples.
>>
>>320364901
Hhehehe.
>>
>>320364998
I mean, to be fair, Americans (which is what I am, I have no idea what nationality you are), are pretty crazy about censoring nudity and 'protecting' our children from sexuality in general.

Goddammit Fable. The aging was the worst goddamned thing about that game. Would have been so much better with the day/night cycle, but just having story-triggered time jumps to make your character age in chunks instead of becoming an old man in two weeks.

I did a LOT of dicking around in Fable, and got pissed when my character was graying and wrinkly going into the Arena. I was like 5x the speed it should have gone.

Morality system.
90% of the time you are just gonna lock yourself to either good or bad choices early in the game.

Dragon's Dogma is pretty nice for armor dressup.

If weapon durability was done realistically, your blade would chip the moment it met the first metallic object and shatter if you bashed it a few more times.

Durability is simply too hard to do. You have to strike the right balance, which is pretty much impossible. The way weapons get used in video games, they would last about a day. And a fully-fledged weapon maintenance and repair system would be way too fucking niche, no one's gonna put up with tedious shit like that.

I'd rather see it get ignored entirely than done halfheartedly.

This. Why am I only allowed to carry ten mags against dozens of enemies? Halo is the worst
>Find shotgun
>Only has two spare mags
>2 shots per elite, 4 per brute, whole mag per hunter
>Immediately throws 4 hunters + squad of elite rangers at you

Whatever the fuck happened to this game anyway?
>>
>>320351534
yeah, but if there weren't a limit
developers would have to put less items on the map that could be pick-upable
otherwise people would just pick up all the useless scenery items up and sell em for 3 golds. which i think would fuck up the game
