Utter regret.

See, the game wasn't fully optimized or some shit so it often had lag spikes. This is one of those super hard platforming games that demands perfection from the player, so those lag spikes would fuck you over hard.

I heard it got fixed a while ago but it really sapped all of my motivation. I should pick it up again though, the characters are pretty sexy. That being said, I recall not being able to get past the first boss. I don't even see how it's possible since some attacks don't seem to be dodgeable. The closest I got to winning was due to RNG luck since he only used attacks I could deal with.

If you're MLG pro then try the game. For everyone else I recommend not even trying.

Unfortunately it's a super meat boy clone, and it's really just about trial and error and seems to expect you to memorize more than hone your reaction times.

Honestly I got about half way through the game before I stopped
The platforming was fine and secrets were nice

But the bosses have too much hp
Usually with the masochistic platformers you've got bosses that have are insanely dangerous but they don't take fucking forever

Here you've got dudes where you can do a few hits after one of their attacks and you'll take off maybe 5-10% of the boss's hp
And each attack can take 5-15s+ and easily murder you

So a full boss fight can take some time just due to all the time spent dodging through the moves to get to the hitting the boss
It just gets kind of tedious

Dustforce is pretty different from WoV since all of your movement options are available to you at the get go and you can do really creative and fast platforming. In this game you have to gradually unlock shit and it never really gets as fast as even the intermediate levels of Dustforce, you just have to be really precise with your movement. if you're okay with a lot of trial and error it's okay but I wouldn't call it a great platformer. Watch a youtube video or something to get a feel for the design.

I liked it. It's a lot better than the dongs.exe school of IWTBTG killing you for dumb stuff. Having there be achievements for not gotting hit on each of the bosses made me actuallly put in effort to learn their patterns in places where ar first i was like "whats with this undodgable bullshit."

The only downsides are the dumb vertical scroll section early on due to the main character's weirdly shaped hitbox and the section right after where the path to take isn't clear.

It's shit. It's a badly designed game where everything is hard for the sake of being hard rather than for the sake of being a good challenge, and the shitty controls leave you battling with them constantly.

No, fuck off. IWBTG is a great game, because it's all about surprise. Every single room does something new to throw you off. IWBTG isn't just "oh check out how hard our game is you have to be a pro gamer to clear this shit", it's just a game that wants to surprise you, and it's enjoyable because of that.

I beat the first boss, though it was a massive pain not because of the boss itself, but because you find your second weapon directly beforehand, and instead of using an extra button to bring up the weapon select menu, they made it so holding down the attack button would do that. At the time the game had an issue where sometimes the input wouldn't come off when you release the button. This wasn't a problem before but after getting the second weapon you randomly get stuck with the weapon select menu popping up, and since it's a radial menu it fucks you over. The second weapon is also complete shit.

After finally beating the boss despite this bullshit the next stage is an auto-scroller that is pure trial and error. It's a maze of missiles rising along the screen with a set path you have to take through them, but if you're not in the right spot by the time it appears you move too slowly to make it before it seals off, so you're constantly dying while figuring out and memorising the stage layout because there's no other way to get through. At that point I just said fuck it and didn't bother going any further with it because I knew it'd only get worse.

Oh, and the game really is full of pixel perfect bullshit. Pic related, for example. To get to the chest you have to jump up from the platform on the left and land in the pictured space. If you touch the enemy at all it's an instant death and you have to try again from the checkpoint several screens away, and it's not helped by the ambiguous hitbox. I was certain that I was doing it wrong because this was just too goddamn stupid, but nope.

IWBTG's screens all each very short, so you move on from them to something new quite quickly. WoV rarely has areas that feel like puzzles; the boss patterns are the closest it comes to that. Most of WoV is just brute forcing your way through an obvious solution until you get your pixels perfect.

I didn't say they're imprecise, I just said they're shitty. The single biggest issue I have with them is that you can only attack in the same direction that you're moving in, and there are a shitload of enemies that attack by rushing towards you and dealing contact damage.

I found it hard to the point of being not enjoyable. Games like Super Meat Boy will at least ease you into the mechanics, and save the bullshit-tier platforming for post-game.

It's pretty fun. Some of the parts are a bit bullshit and the quality is merely okay, but it's got some replayability at least and the deaths are all pretty nice (even the gorey ones aren't too extreme).

The replayability comes from this dark angel transformation you can do. Depending on your rank in the levels and how many times you use the dark angel shit to powerboost through changes the final levels and endings.
And this halfway point where if you've been bad you have to get a needle injection minigame to the eye.

I guess I should be fair, the puzzles are actually pretty decent. But the story is garbage and gets far more praise than it deserves.
What is shit about the gameplay is that it's an open environment which serves no real purpose, you just do a shitload of walking back and forth because of it. The game's secrets are also largely hidden behind completely invisible gaps in walls, so the only way to find them without a guide is to push yourself against and try to shoot through every part of every wall in the game.
