What peopleand judging by the majority of this thread, I use that term lightlyseem to forget, is that pursuer is tge fucking gate keeper of giting gud, at least if it'syour first souls title. You have to learn timings and patterns, he does more damage and is faster than any boss you had fought so far (if your going the intended way), and he has combo strings with a wide variety of attacks. The pursuer is the ds2 equivalent of the ds1 gargoyles, it teaches the same things and beating it is the first real midterm the game will throw at you.

Nah, difficulty wise they're really the same. Dark Souls is a little easier because you don't have to deal with ADPshit and stamina conservation is nowhere near as important as in DS2. Shields are also a lot more useful in DS1.

The parallels between gargoyles/pursuer are obvious, neither are the first boss, bit the final bosses of their areas or paths. besides the similarites between the two that I have already outlined, both of their previously mentioned areas have near identical progression to them. (Btw i never said they were the first bosses, I said they were 'gatekeepers')
humor me and pretend you didn't pick master key. if you go straight into the Parish/FotFG the tarous demon/last giant will be the first boss you run into. After you clear a bit, you may want a change of scenery so you go to try your hand in the Forest/Heides and kill the butterfly/dragonslayer. The final thing of this beginner section will be the aforementioned fight with the Gargoyles/Pursuer. These two routes are obviously not exactly the same, I'd hope they wouldn't be since they're different games, but the way they present bosses and locations follow the same structure. Id also like to mention that the bosses I've compared ro each other are basically the same level of difficulty and present the same tests thst the player must over come (dodge slow hard hitting monster with demon and giant, dodge timing with butt-fly and dragonslayer, previous post covers gargy and pussy).

Equip small shield for parry
Parry his charge strikes
Hit him
Dodge his easily avoidable swings until he charges again.
If he does the energy release attack, stand behind him and attack.
