Okay, I know people are going to shit on me for this, but does anyone know a good $300-$400 PC build that I can upgrade later?
Are you able to recycle any parts or is this a fresh build?
Unless you have parts laying around, for $400 you're going to get something akin to a Nintendo 64

better to ask /g/ bruv

I thought the meme was that you could build a computer better than a ps4/xbone with that dosh

I don't have any parts myself but maybe I can ask a friend for some parts so its kind of a yes and a no.

Just so we're clear I am planning on upgrading the computer later. I'm just tight on money right now is all.

My ~$400 build.
$240 for the tower off of craigslist, $40 for 8GB more ram, $135 for the GTX 950 (during black friday). The tower came with a 8800 GTX that I've been too lazy to resell. I can probably make back $30-$40 on it.
Keep an eye on your local craigslist for anything with a i5 / i7 processor (literally i5/i7 ANYTHING is good enough for gaming) and isn't a prebuilt and you're in business.

If you really are doing it that tight just build a system without a gpu and add one later, preferably Nvidia maxwell or amd equivalent

Then wait.
You'd need to upgrade so soon
Why spend 400 on parts you're going to throw away soon anyway?
Wait until January sales and then start searching for pre owned parts and build it bit by bit.
Remember, it's Christmas now yeah? People get stuff for Christmas? lots of people want new Graphics cards or computers and what do they do with their old shit?
Wait until after Christmas and then search Craigslist and Ebay for bargains.
Yeah, it's called a Playstation 4
Buy everything buy GPU, should get you a nice rig once it's ready
Hypothetically, what is the cheapest PC you could build that would be able to run Star Citizen just fine?
I know I'm gonna get some flak for this, but the /r/pcmasterrace subreddit has a whole page of builds for various price ranges. Next Gen Crusher seems to be about what you're looking for at about 400 dollars

Right now? Probably close to 800USD. The game is optimized as fuck

Probably the best you could do unless you're okay with used parts.
If you went used you could get some nice ass shit, like a 7970 or 2500k.

>800USD
being in poverty sucks;_;
i'll make it someday.

Less than that, considering good GPUs are getting cheaper and you can OC locked Skylake chips now.

I have this laying around, haven't used it since the harddrive failed. Everything else seems to work fine though.
Could any parts be recycled from it? Or is everything in it too old?

That's WAY too old.
