A character being in smash bros used to mean something, they'd be constantly featured in webcomics and fanart and other stuff. If your favorite character got into smash if could change the direction of your entire game series.
In 2015 Smash don't do that. Everybody forgets who the latest DLC character is after a few months, Smash 4 is the worst selling on the worst selling console.
Honestly, a small part of me is kinda glad my character missed out because they might actually get a good reveal as a non-dlc if nintendo fixes up their shit by Smash 5
