>>
>Sa2 was actually shit it's just nostalgia meme

>>
>>320270053
I didn't even know it was a meme. It's what I remembe being the most legitamently disappointing when I played it later in life and realized how ass it was.
>>
>>320270053
Sorry dude, it's true. A couple of the sonic levels are still kinda fun and the chao garden is a cute little tamagotchi minigame, but overall the game is only slightly better than the average 3d sonic shit.

It was a good game...
Sonic level, broken multiplayer, chaos garden, emblem to get...
>>
>>320270483
I literally bought the game for Xbox 360 and steam, played through both campaigns and went to the god damn lizard asshole and couldn't beat him because the controls are ass and he's a douche
>>
>>320267805
nigger you best be joking.

I played that game again and it was still good.

Oh lord I have a lot.
Starfox Adventures
Ed Edd n Eddy The Mis-Edventures
Crash Bandicoot The Wrath Of Cortex
Guitar Hero

There's a lot more I just can't think of them right now

I was honestly disappointed when I finally watched GG do Sonic '06 and I realized that all the shit it got was for being only marginally worse than the adventure games. People just finally realized that the formula was garbage and only stayed above water because people know the characters
>>
>>320270747
God damn no it sucked balls come on people the controls are shit, the mech levels are a joke, the treasure hunter levels are the same booty copy and pasted all over this shitty game, and the last level is ridiculously difficult.

When I played it for the first time in about 7 years since i played it when I was like 12, it was exactly as I remembered it in literally every possible way, from the controls to what levels wer the most fun to the admittedly shitty camera and so on.

I had just as much fun with the treasure and mech stages as I did when I first played it whn I was 10 or so: Eggman and kunckle's stages are consistently great (fuck death chamber though), Tail's stages are good, and rouges ranges from serviceable to terrible
>>

>>320272395
Please no. I love R&C in general, but the original has not aged well, and in my experience, is downright frustrating at many points when played today.

2 and 3 still hold up great, though. Honesty, if they had shoehorned in strafing and tidied up some areas during the HD port process, I'm sure I'd be far more forgiving, but as it is, R&C 1 is just too dated for me.

Pyramid cave would be a B if not for the fucking key slot things that ruin the pace of the level.

Death chamber is ass to navigate around because there's only 1 way in and out of each room.

Not sure what your deal is with the jungle levels.

Meteor herd is fun to fuck around in and to navigate around, and has fantastic music. I bet you are one of th people who think treasure stages are shit because of how long they take when thye whole point of them is to be chill.

>>320267805
SA2 is bad but in a good kind of way. It's hard to describe but I feel like despite being an overall bad game, one can still enjoy it. It had a lot of shit levels for sure, but it also had a lot of awesome levels to and I felt compelled to play through it to completion. It's like the devs really tried even though they fell short of their goal.

Whereas Sonic 2006 on the other hand was absolute garbage. It had no redeeming qualities and nothing compelled you to see the game through. Since the game was rushed, you can tell the devs gave up and just said fuck it with everything that wasn't complete or polished.

Not the guy you were replying to, but I think SA1 has more charm than SA2 does. However, at the same time, SA2 seems more polished than SA1. It's like, with SA2, Sonic Team reviewed all their mistakes they made with SA1 and cleaned up a lot. So overall you got a better looking, better executed game but it's missing that campy feel that made SA1 stand out.
>>
>>320278673
>SA1 is clunkier and janky then Sa2 in every way Sa2 is clunky and janky.
It's weird then that I had the opposite experience. I played both back-to-back for nostalgia's sake, and SA1 was a lot smoother, the set pieces worked better, and just the level design in general was better. On the Sonic and Tails levels, I never had to slow down or stop as much as I did with the shadow and Sonic stages in SA2. It all flowed a lot better, and controlled a lot better. The level designs also often allowed you to sequence break and find shortcuts in a way that SA2 just doesn't (it's even necessary to sequence break to get A rank on some SA1 levels). I will admit that Big's levels were worse than anything in SA2, but other than that SA1 was better in general. It also had a better story and the dialogue was synced correctly, but that's not as important.
>>
>>320279109
The cutscences are goofy as fuck, but the game plays better and is less glitchy. I preferred SA2 when I was young, but going back it was obvious which was better.
>>
>>320280210
>the game plays better and is less glitchy
SA1 is far glitchier, has way more shit standing between you and the few good levels, and even those levels have way more and way longer sequences where you're just running through loops and shit without actually playing the game.
>>
>>320278235
I used to love the original Psychic Force, back then that intro and the soundtrack always got me hyped up to play the game, though I bet if I played it now i'd probably see how shit it was or something.

I played SA1 when I was 11 (inb4 underage, I'm now 23). By that point it was already """""dated""""" (fuck I hate that word) in that the graphics were not that impressive anymore and the "OMFG SONIC BUT IN THREE DEEEEEEE" glee was not present; meaning I could notice the shit camera and bad glitches. Nonetheless I had fun. I replayed it a bunch of times as I got older, and I never ended up disliking it.

Glitchy as fuck, camera's often bad, and they spent too much time on decent-to-awful alternate play styles and too little on making the Sonic/Sonic style gameplay as good as they could have

BUT!!!

-the art direction kicks ass; great mix of pseudo-realism and lively use of color that's very fitting for a Sega platformer of that era. People complain about Station Square, but I kinda like it; walking around town and the casino and whatnot evokes a bit of that urban atmosphere that I associate with Sega games like Jet Set Radio and Yakuza (and I guess Shenmue but I haven't played that one, oops)

-this urban atmosphere is nicely mixed with a contrasting mystical one to create a... I guess you could call it "corny" atmosphere, but nonetheless it felt quite unique and pleasant.

-a lot of the Sonic levels are genuinely *excitingly* designed, with fun platforming and neat set-pieces. There's just always STUFF GOING ON.

-soundtrack is fun and full of good melodies

SA2: First played it... JUST a year later. At first I was impressed by how it felt like it spent more time in the oven. The camera was less shitty, glitches happened less often, and it just felt like a more solid experience.

...but once all that wore off, I realized SA2 is..... kind of a huge downgrade in every other regard.

-art direction is fucking garbage. Half the game takes place in the ARK, which basically takes the most uninteresting visuals from the metallic-themed stages in the Genesis Sonic levels and makes them utterly fucking soulless and irredeemably boring. I guess the grinding levels are OK but that's about it. The rest of the game takes place in monochrome jungles, pyramids, grey military bases... they clearly wanted to make the game feel more 'grounded' to attract an edgy teenager audience, but it only briefly worked on me before I realized what was going on.

-I gotta hand it SOMETHING - it managed to nail that lively urban Sega atmosphere much better than SA1. Escape from the City and one of the night-time Tails levels spring to mind. Unlike most people, I actually missed the overworld.

-The levels are less fun. Less platforming and engaging set-pieces, more holdforward - this type of "NEVER STOP GOIN FAST" gameplay was perfected in Generations, so SA2's Sonic & Shadow levels just feels boring now.

Basically, SA1 is the better game. If you took everything good about that game, ironed out the garbage, made all the characters revolve around the same basic gameplay style (Sonic is a pinball, so what should Knuckles be? A bowling ball, obviously!")

You'd finally have a good non-Hedgehog Engine 3D Sonic game and shut all the "Sonic Adventure would never, ever work" people up.

It'll never happen but god DAMN would I love it ;_;
>>
>>320281126
Actually yeah, that's another thing I forgot to mention. I first played it on an emulator and the egyptian golem fight was actually better in it; in the GC version, the controls or... SOMETHING, I dunno, but it felt REALLY fucked up and wrong. There might be other such changes that I don't remember.

but >>320281627 I still say SA1's gameplay could use an overhaul in terms of camera and glitches and physics and you'd have yourself a great fucking platformer. I'm sure Sonic Team are afraid of attempting that all over again though, because of FUCKING Sonic 2006.

where are you getting shit controls from? the camera is personally the problem imo. Controls fine, camera eh.
>>320276236
what's the appeal? It's boring walk around and shoot everything. It's a sonic game, I understand treasure hunting but not mech.

I like how half the cutscenes have their mouths moving during dialogue and the other half don't.

The game was rushed out to catch the tail end of the DC lifespan. Its amazing it came out as good as it did considering the time and restraints they had

But no one seems to understand this.

It's literally how it plays dude idk. It's clunky and ass

The mouths are synced up to the Japanese voices and not the english voices.

I actually think the gameplay and level design in Sa2 is better then both Sa1 and generations, but i'm too tired to explain why.

What's hard about him? Is it the part where you're supposed to use the balls to homing attack up to his weak point but the targeting keeps fucking up?

I hate this game's gameplay so much. It's busted on every level, it's so easy that it's tedious to play unless you cripple yourself to the point where I'd really rather be playing another game, it's slow compared to the other SNES FFs, and no, the story does not make up for any of these things.

I wish they gave heroes a proper 16:9 hd steam/ps4 release. The original windows copy of heroes is a fucking mess. Its my second favorite 3D sonic

Recently replayed SA1 and SA2.

SA1 feels like ST tried to shove so many ideas into one work while throwing the least amount of polish at it in an attempt to finish the game.

Take Sonic's campaign, arguably the best of the six presented: One level is running through beaches, the other is walking through a casino, and the next is starting and stopping on a flying fortress. It's almost like games were being made at Sega but were cancelled and their elements got shoved into a Sonic game.

The story isn't there, but you shouldn't expect it to be. The inspiration from Central and South America gives the game a certain type of charm that works for a while (especially in Lost World, what a level) but feels hamfisted.

The animations are awful, the voice acting is mediocre, and that's pretty much the entire game.

SA2 tries to address the clusterfuck that was SA1's varied campaigns and actually succeeds for the most part. The Eggman levels were nice, the Tails level blew. Knuckles had charm, Rouge felt lifeless and their levels reflected it. Shadow's levels were just a copy of Sonic's, which manage to showcase an improved sense of speed and control. It felt very good.

The story, however plot-holey it was, managed to pack a nice punch and had great moments of characters being characters.

The Chao Garden was also much better.

SA2 is just the better game, family.

emulate it on dolphin, senpai

gamecube version was best anyway

I have it on gamecube but dont really like emulation since its never perfect and that triggers my tism. Still, a $10 port with basic modern features and hd upscaling and trophies would sell great since its a popular game.

As opposed starting on an Island, ending up in an underwater city, to see some marbles, then hit the casinos and then go on a snowboarding trip with your winnings, just to remember that "oh shit, I forgot about Eggman" and actually put a stop to his plans, but then you end up on schrooms, to board one of eggman's fleets again, then end up in a desert, to find out theres a underground mine with lava flowing through it, but that mine has a secret palace in it, and a teleporter to basically heaven, then you shoot off into space to kick eggmans ass one more time.

don't act like sonic never had drastic changes in it's zones, because it always was like that.

It's been a long time since I played it, but I recall that and the near end of the fight where the gravity stops and you're floating around all those balls and have to navigate through them to land the final few hits. I don't remember if you have rings or not but I remember that part being really cheap considering any ball could hit you with ease and wipe out all your progress. It was mostly luck at that point.

I think it's just trying to emulate the classic Sonic style where you have many different types of stages all with their own gimmicks. They probably just didn't have enough time/resources to finish them up properly, which makes the whole thing feel unfocused and unfinished.

/sthg/ even has a download link for it.

it's because of the pal refresh rate being 50hz. the game is designed to be in 60hz, so if you played the pal version, the controls had some weird input delay. like, at times it registers one button press as two which really fucks up the gameplay.
