The difference between 1080p to 4k is so fucking miniscule. From 1080 to 8k, it's not even any better. The difference is so fucking small it's ridiculous.
I swear this shit is all just a mental thing for retards. Some dude in my Cs class ragged on me for still using a 1080 monitor instead of 4k, and I straight up told him:

Screenshots don't really do higher resolutions justice. That said I'll take ultra-high frame rates over ultra-high resolution any day.
The only difference is it's sharper.

You can do the same thing on a 1080 monitor with AA on, and achieve the same amount of strain on your hardware as you would trying to render anything at 4k or even 8k.
You're basically paying hundreds of dollars to have built in AA on your monitor.

Your straining the shit out of your hardware to expand the amount of pixels being rendered. You can achieve the same goal by just using anti aliasing, and possibly put less strain on your hardware as well.

Realistically speaking right now 4K is only particularly useful for supersampling down to a 1080p image; if you're going 4K you're going to want a 42in+ TV you sit close to to see any sort of real benefit from it. 8K is just overkill.

Some dude kept bragging about being able to play Witcher 3 maxed out at 4k, but only got 25-30fps. With 2 980s.
That's fucking stupid. I'd rather play standard 1080 and get 60 with my 970 with a few things turned down.
I recently upgraded my machine after a 5 year run.
I was on the lowest settings, and it looked "ok" with a lot of frame drops and stuttering.
Updated machine, running Ultra settings: Looks basically the same, nice "wet" textures, 60 fps.
So really, the only difference I noticed were the wet textures and the perfect frame rates.
