What do you think of Discord as a gaming chat application, /v/?
>>
It's alright
>>
Uninstalled Skype, using only Discord, not looking back, it's amazing.
>>
I find it slow, so I dislike it. It's also too reliant on that shitty metro theme.
>>
I've never used it, is it the new normie skype?
>>
>>320261030
The opposite. This is the hipster geymur skype.
>>
>>320261030
It's skype but doesn't sell your data to NSA+Microsoft, doesn't take 400 MB RAM, lets you have servers, text channels, it's really great.

>>320261030
I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be a non-normie skype
>>
how much are you getting paid OP?
>>
>>320261030
Somewhat. It's not normie yet though but it is growing in popularity.

However, you should use it mostly for group chats. It's clearly not meant for one on one conversations.

I'd like to use it but I have no idea how and where to find groups. That's my only annoyance with the thing, there's no group searcher or something like that.

This.

How the hell do I find people to talk if I don't have friends. Where can I find groups for this thing?
>>
What's wrong with teamspeak?
>>
>>320260618
I think its the greatest fucking shit.
>>
>>320261560
>>320261840
If you've been on the internet for at least 15 years and haven't once found a group of bros to settle down with then you're a lost cause.

Just give up trying to be social, it's not meant for you.
>>
I joined one that was posted here a couple weeks back. The people there were cancer.
Program seems cool though, I'd probably use it over teamspeak and mumble if I actually had friends or was part of any sort of community.
>>
>>320261840
What do you like playing and what are your centers of interest, anon?
>>
Great for shit like MMO's. Been in /v/'s Discord for Tera for a few weeks now, and it's so much easier to get groups going since any of the guilds can use it. It's not that great for Voice chat, Mumble is much better for that for being less resource heavy and for having more features for voice, but the group chatting is great.
>>320261906
You can get people's IP's from it and it's more resource heavy than Mumble. TeamSpeak became irrelevant the minute Mumble came out.
>>
>>320262097
Keyword: groups for this thing.

I know where to find people in other places, but not for this thing.
>>
>>320261906
Costs money, cant join multiple servers at once and the chat is shit.
>>
>>320260618

>Discord

Is this some fucking pony shit?
>>
>>320260757
Skype is fucking trash anyhow
>>
>>320262582
Yet everyone uses it.
>>
Its like Mumble in sound quality but its not hard as fuck to get other people to use.

>used to have a mumble server till some faggot egotripped and kicked anyone who didn't suck his dick

>forced to use skype
>>
>>320262193
Just anime and gaming really.
I'm currently playing Hearthstone and Smite but haven't made any friends playing either of them.

I'm not that guy I just want free advice plz
>>
>>320261906
It's not Mumble
>>
>>320262493
How would you know that's MLP related if you don't watch the show, anon?
>>
>>320262640
I've been using a public Reddit LoL mumble server for years, you can probably find tons of open servers
>>
>>320262668
Meant for >>320262281
>>
>>320262690
Not him but not picking at least the most basic stuff about that show through the years and the years after it got spammed endlessly everywhere is nearly impossible.
>>
>>320260618
>gaming chat application
Jesus Christ, what the fuck am I reading.
>>
>>320262668
>anime
>"gaming" : hearthstone and smite

You poor soul. I honestly would love to be your friend but I don't want to ever play those games.
>>
>>320262640
>not running your own Mumble server
>>
>>320262796
I've never once seen someone post Discord, and I followed all those threads on /co/ from 2010.
>>
>>320262320
Oi, Tera group chat you say? Point me in the right direction bruv
>>
>>320262756
The ugly interface and little bit of configuration you have to do scares people off.

Discord just has some sane defaults with alot of those same features.
>>
>>320262281
>>320262281
I don't know. Weeb stuff I suppose? It's really hard to think of something when asked about it just like that.
>>
>>320262493
That was a real word that people used prior to 2010, you know. Not everything is tied to le pastel hors boogeyman.
>>
Been using this for a while, it's pretty okay. Devs aren't retarded and things are developing pretty quickly. Group voice is pretty much a dream to use.

It's not really in a position to replace Skype just yet, but they're hopefully updating before the end of the year with some features in that direction.

I really hope they don't fuck this up.
>>
>>320262391
it's supposed to be used by existing groups, not help you find new groups.
>>
>>320263067
Ask in guild. If you aren't in any of the guilds or known by someone in the chat, you won't get in.
>>
is there a chill non-meme-spamming /v/ chat? I joined the 'Discord and Chill' one and it is fucking awful

I guess I'm fucked then. None of the places I frequent use this program. I doubt they've even heard of it. Shame, I really liked the thing from the little I tested. It's like IRC but simpler and nicer.
>>
>>320261202
>sell your data to NSA+Microsoft
I dont care, what can they do here in Bulgaria, lol
>>
>>320263662
What did you expect from a bunch of 15 year olds?
>>
>>320263662
Not sure I want to talk with /v/. Even Reddit is less cancerous at this point. Too bad because I'm sure there are a lot of very decent and interesting persons here.
>>
>>320263678
it's just another chat/voice program. not like you really lose anything by not using it.
>>
I was under the impression that only ERPfags use it.
>>
I dropped Vent and Teamspeak for Discord back in July. It's not perfect but its current features are really good. The devs update it pretty frequently with new stuff and the upcoming features are promising.
>>
>>320260757
This. Only thing Skype has over this is screen sharing.
>>
>>320264717
Which new features? This sounds interesting.
>>
Friend introduced it to me yesterday
Seems pretty neat and its easy to use
I hope it gains more popularity
Skype is cancer, there is so much clutter, bloat, and quality issues with that shit.
>>
Skype is so shit it's unreal. My friend had to poke his mic because Skype would artificially make it gain more and more gain over time and any call would devolve into a sandstorm.
>>
>>320264939
I remember a couple off the top of my head
In Game Overlay
One on One Voice Calls (so we can tell skype to fuck off)
Integration with Youtube/Twitch/etc

You can read the dev blog on the website
>>
Discord is great so far. UI is clean and the group chats are nice. Having the ability to easily transfer files are really nice too.

Discord even works as an easy image hoster. They need to implemement a friends list though already.
>>
>can't change status
How the fuck am I supposed to let my friends know I don't want to play with them?

Seriously, even fucking MSN had that shit and it's like 60 years old.
>>
Opinions on Dolby Axon?
>>
>>320266246
you tell them when they invite you "no, don't want to play right now"
>>
Nah i'll just stick with skype
>>
>>320266310
Or they simply implement this very simple and basic feature?

I want them to think I'm gone, I don't want them to think I'm autistic for playing alone.
>>
>https://discordapp.com/company
Chinese botnet

>>320261202
LOL
>>
>>320262320
>more resource heavy than Mumble
wow lad those 1% more CPU usage will fuck up your raid

as for future bullshit you may spew
Both use Opus so sound quality is on par
Lag depends on servers, so even mumble can have immense lag if a server is shitting

The two differences between mumble and teamspeak are: Design and User count in rooms
>>
>>320262435
>Costs money

I think somebody ripped you off, friend

TS clients are free as in beer
>>
>>320260618
I think that .0001 of a dollar is gonna go real far, buddy.
>>
>>320266602
there's a setting where it won't show you're playing a game.
>friends think you're autistic for playing alone
get better friends
>>
Any free voice voip service comes with the price of botnet.
>>
>>320266787
TS servers are not.

And I have never seen free beer either.
>>
>>320266934
You can host your own for free. Has a limit on amount of clients that can connect to, but that can be increased by getting a free licence.
>>
Is there a good video chat alternative to skype yet?
>>
>>320267167
32 without a license, 512 with a free non-profit license. Pretty sick deal.

I personally prefer mumble because of its integration into programs I use, though.

I'd never use Discord lol.

>>320267185
You fucking wish.
>>
>>320266832
Or a better chat app.

Waiting on it to get popular to jump onto the next hipster bandwagon of unnecessary programs, or as we leet call them "apps".
>>
>>320267401
Unless you have a public server 32 slots is plenty for most people.
>>
Let's make a group chat.
