Dawn trailer alludes to the same thing shown in that early footage of Noctis and Stella talking about seeing the light and the near death experiences of their childhood. The new trailer had visual references of something happening to both Luna and Noctis fifteen years before the start of the game's main plot which was confirmed to be for Noctis how he got his abilities to see things and summon stuff. "Open world" generally translates to "barren wasteland" because there's a finite amount of detail a dev team of any given size can fill the canvas (and vsXIII's is apparently like 10x the size of San Andreas), and ARPG combat in general bores the hell out of me. It has potential to do open world in a way no one else has really done if they can keep up some of what they showed off in episode duscae. The behemoth sequence before getting Ramuh was very well done and the camera and direction was really dynamic in that I thought it was a perfect blend of cutscene and gameplay. Before it looked like it could have been a game that compared to legitimate literature. After playing the demo it just doesn't have the feeling anymore. You can tell they're doing more pandering than they did last time, especially with Cidney.

I tried the demo and it was alright. The combat is admittedly a nice change of pace, it's like Kingdom Hearts but less 'floaty' if that makes sense. The characters all move realistically, Noctis especially. This can be really annoying though when you see your teammates sliding around on the grass like they're on a slip-n-slide (I'm not kidding) and Noctis controls like he weighs 200lb.
They need to loosen the controls a bit. Doesn't look like they will though.
