I drive for a living so LPs are a nice substitute for the radio.

It's a substitute for radio for me, the state and the commercial radio here is absolutely terrible. So as long as they continue to be shit tier I will listen to podcast, let's plays or streams.
And let's not kid ourselves with the notion that it is only lonely people who watches streams and let's plays that uses it for friend substitute. Radio also has a lot these kind of people (if not more) who think they are best buddies with their favorite host and so does television shows, this is not something that is unique to e-celebs at all. You just notice it more because it's closer to your attention field.

I used to watch let's plays to check games out and see what was the consensus on a game/how other people felt about a mechanic or a story thing but I completely lost interest in them
Then I realized that I was only using let's plays as background noise so I started listening to podcasts instead
