Why do people pretend this game wasn't shit?

Because despite it being a buggy mess it had soul and a good story. Just like Fallout: New Vegas.

New Vegas and Bloodlines are the greatest games of all time, and the ultimate proof that video games can be art.

Even before the patches, it was one of the best written, most atmospheric first person RPGs ever made, and it's a shame there aren't more games like it. I mean, Human Revolution is cool and all, but Bloodlines is the greatest of the lot, bugs and all.

Apart from the bugs, and last boss crashing repeatedly it was exceptional when it was released.

A proper bloodlines sequel would be on my insta buy list. I don't even care if it's a reboot with an updated/extended version of the same story.

All it needs is modern graphics/mechanics and more content and it would be GoTY materiel.

Same with Joshua Sawyer, he admitted that NV was a buggy piece of shit and that he didn't really think of how logical the whole story and the setting were when him and Avellone were writing the story.

Always hated this theory, it's really dumb.

I doubt Caine would give a fuck what happens to the rest of the world's vampires. That's the problem in making Caine a taxi driver, you're assigning a human personality and motives to an entity that is non-human. He isn't benevolent, he doesn't seek power or wealth and he certainly doesn't drive fucking taxis for people in domestic disputes. He's got better things to do.

Imagine if a Christian saw Jesus driving a cab.

Anyone other than Malks and Nosferatu is fine, just invest in some combat abilities because you'll eventually need them no matter what. Tremere in particular can make the combat piss easy, so avoid them if you care about that (but you shouldn't, fighting isn't the game's strong point anyway).

I have pic related but it's almost certainly not the most up to date version.

Don't get so defensive, kid. Video games are modern, highly technical toys. Virtual theme park experiences. They are purely entertainment. Video games are not art because they are required to have gameplay, in other words they are toys that you play with. They contain contracted "art assets" but they are not art since they're inherently required to pander and conform to various pre-established ideas of what is entertaining and what isn't. People expect gameplay interactivity and shit from a game. People expect "fun" from a game. Art doesn't have these kinds of restrictions, art doesn't have to pander. Art doesn't have to be fun or entertaining. Art doesn't require "cool gameplay mechanics" or a "plot" or pretty graphics to be validated. When game developers make a game, they think "how can we make this fun?" "how can we make these systems come together and create a fun and entertaining experience?" That's the core basis of video games. When you create art, you don't think "how can I entertain audiences with this?"

I'm the guy you replayed to, and I agree with what you said almost to a t. Games are at this point in a stage where you need a "team" of skilled rather than creative people. But you have a bunch of indie games(I mean real indie games not journey) that are made by one or two dudes and are very much a pure individual expression. And in that way I do see games becoming something more than just fun and entertaining toys.

Thousands of "[X] and the Band" bands would disagree. Sometimes you need a bassists or drummer who fairly understands what the fuck you are trying to achieve and nothing further. There are musical projects out there revolved around one man's vision. This "chemistry" you are talking about may affect band's success in your eyes, but it often doesn't and success isn't a thing to achieve when it comes to art but that's whole another discussion.

>>320253107
Yes. But there's far far too many mods to make a "definitive" list, and the graphics stuff depends on your hardware, so you're better off going through the top rated mods on Nexus and checking out what catches your interest. Just avoid huge overhauls on your first run.

And I've never mentioned anything about success.

God this game was so fucking good

Combat was 1/10, areas were tiny and exploration was shit but I have yet to play a game with a story/dialogue/replay value/atmosphere done so well

Honest question: this game has massive potential, why didn't anyone attempt to revive the franchise? The major flaws can be overcome with a budget, but the biggest studios can't come close it's greatest strengths

Would you fags fund a kickstarter? Is the original team even doing anything at this point?

The game flopped. The original team was shut down because of it. The IP was then bought by CCP, which wanted to use it to make a MMO, but eventually scrapped the whole thing due to their incompetence and ended up just sitting on the property. They recently sold it to Paradox, which is definitely making some new game based on it, but most likely not something like VtmB.

And oh did it hae some crazy fucking bugs back in the day before the fan patches fixed everything. My favorite was when EVERY object in the game world would get replaced by some singular other object. So all doors and door handles would become spools, the computers would be spools, the cars would be spools etc. And this bug would persist forever unless you had a previous save from before this bug started

Because atmosphere trumps gameplay. There are cult, well loved games that managed to build up amazing atmosphere through attention to detail, dialogue and/or map design despite having middling gameplay at best.

Examples:
VtmB
Silent Hill
Deadly Premonition

Even games like Yakuza and Demon's Souls have middling gameplay at best but thrive through environment and atmosphere. It's far more important to build that than it is to ramp up the gameplay.

You know the one thing I hate about Bloodlines? If you want to get that extra xp you have to do the tutorial each time. Otherwise you're stunted. And in VtmB minmaxing gives you more content so it's important to maximize your xp gain if you know how.

Please, both games have simplistic combat, Souls games at least put some effort in positioning until you overlevel (and most people overlevel on their first playthrough and breeze through second half) whereas in Yakuza you can just spam dodge and win most fights.

>there are NCR guards/bases everywhere, and the entire world is too much organized

Simplistic compared to combo-heavy beat em ups, maybe. But the beauty is in their simplicity. With Demon's Souls especially, there is no extra fluff, there is no "press to win" button, there is no bread and butter solution to every encounter.

Games don't need to be Bayonetta to have good combat.

And Yakuza is just fun, so fuck you, I'll fight you!
