Name another game with a no-loading open world this gen.
>>
>>320182678
Guess you fags can't. Boom.
>>
Won't lie, Monolith pulled some sorcery out of their asses with this one.
>>
WiiU is fine enough power wise for Nintendo's own games.

When they made WiiU, they literally didn't see the need, for better or worse, to make it as powerful as something like PS4 because well....the WiiU as it is runs Smash at 1080p 60fps and looks great. It runs Mariokart in "HD" at a flawless 60fps.

It'll be likely that going by how Xenoblade looks, that Zelda WiiU will be a locked and flawless 30fps 720p or even 60fps considering Aonuma said he's going back to it's 2D roots.

Nintendo's people are the masters of doing more with less. They code everything manually.

Xenoblade X to run on a PS3 would've had to have been like 800x600 resolution or something to achieve the same thing.
>>
>>320182678
witcher 3
>>
>>320183602
I still think the witcher 3 is the better game but it did have loading screens. XcX has a seamless world
>>
>>320183602
Topkek

I have the game on PC. "YOU CANT GO HERE TURN BACK", loading screens when entering half the buildings and main locations.
>>
>>320183602
Really! No loading from one end to the other? I haven't played so I don't know.
>>
>>320183504
Nintendo makes WiiU games for the WiiU.
It's something of an oddity in this day and age where microsoft and sony try to make PC games for the PS4/xbone.
>>
>>320183806
yes, unless you're fast travelling or some shit, you can ride/walk from one end of the map to the other
>>
>>320183504
This is the most retarded thing I've read all day and he fact that is so long is even worse.
>>
>>320183794
thats funny, because you can ride all through velen without seeing a loading screen on the ps4

maybe you need a better pc anon
>>
>>320183794
install it onto an SSD then fampai
>>
>>320183941
Except for the part where the world is split into parts, sure.
>>
>>320182678
well once it's loaded the city the first time, infamous has always let you roam around the entire playable area with no loading screens
>>
Daily Reminder that the WiiU runs at a max of 60watts full load, the PS4 uses 200 watts, the PS3 used 120 watts

Daily reminder that comparing WiiU to any of the other systems is a moot point as it punches above it's wattage weight, intentionally designed to be a low power high return console.

The WiiU per watt is the most powerful system ever released, and if Nintendo scaled up the chip process and silicon budget and shot for 200W like PS4, they'd blitz it's performance twofold.
>>
>>320183602

TW3 not only has loading screens, the map is segmented into regions. In XCX you can travel the ENTIRE world without a load screen.
>>
>>320183781
so what you're saying is once you boot the game you will NEVER see a loading screen?

>>
>>320184365
Lmao okay pal.
>>
>>320184125
yeah, like the first part where you spend like 2 hours of the game and theres literally no reason to return after you're finished there, and the fucking skellege isles, where all of the assets are different

we're talking about seamless loading anon, the witcher does it.
>>
What impresses me is the fact that you can see for miles out. Yeah, there's pop in and stuff, but it's pretty crazy.
>>
>>320183504

> They code everything manually.

What do you mean by this?
>>
>>320182678
ARK, and most, if not all, of those survival sims.
>>
>>320184476
Except for the seams, sure.
>>
>>320184451

There is no load times in Final Fantasy XV.
>>
>>320184365

>Implying this "game" is even close to done

We don't know shit other than the shitty news we get fed by marketing liars that are desperately trying to remind people that this project even exists.
>>
>>320184305
Never said that, I meant the outside world. there's still some loading screens for indoor areas
>>
>>320184601
Relax there's PLENTY of time for downgrades.
>>
>>320184280
let me guess, it loads every time theres a cutscene right? considering the size of the region, where most of the game takes place, we're talking about massive open regions that you can wander without seeing loading screens.

more games need to do this.
>>
>>320184528
They are incredibly meticulous with their code work. Look at how they intentionally left classic bugs in the OoT rebuild.

They are also wizards at data compression. Have you ever looked at the file sizes of Nintendo games? Meanwhile Western devs can't be bothered to clean their own shit up so you get a 40gb game that really only uses half the assets left in it.
>>
>>320184528
All the shaders are manually programmed, alot of the code is done at a base machine level and they don't use any middleware etc.

When they want a fresnel effect on a shader they're making, they do it with what is basically a low level opengl version of assembly. They don't use a big easy GUI that fucks optimization and reduces overall ability like unreal etc.

Unreals overhead is minimal these early days of the gen on PS4 etc, but devs will abandon it for custom engines as the gen progresses and they need to get closer and closer to the silicon.
>>
>>320184765

The only loading screens in XCX are 5-10 seconds for fast travelling/respawning and 3-5 seconds when loading a cutscene.

It's pretty fucking impressive considering the massive scale of the game.
>>
>>320184593
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S91LMEo6OhQ

oh look, 16 mins and no loading screens, idiot.
>>
>>320184856

I honestly don't think devs will abandon the middle ware. It's just so much easier with middle ware. Outside of Nintendo and a few other companies, middle ware will be the way of the future most likely.
>>
>>320184664
that would make sense, i'd be really fucking impressed if any dev pulled off seamless loading for each area in the entire game.

do any games do this? I cant think of any,
>>
>WiiU runs Xenoblade X at 60watts, locked 30fps 720p

>PS3 needed 120 watts to run Skyrim at sub HD with awful visuals and a stuttery mess of a framerate

>Nintendo runs Smash at 1080p 60fps with 8 players on 60watts, probably the wattage draw of the fucking PS4 camera

Nintendo magic.
>>
>>320184646
>>320184736

The game is actually playable from start to finish as of right now. It's damn near finished, Square is just polishing the game. And from the demo, there was no load times.
>>
>>320184391
hahahahahahaha
>>
>>320185046
Take a boat from skellege to oxenfort and I will concede.
>>
>>320184980
thats pretty impressive. I've been thinking about picking it up because i love mecha shit, but I never played xenoblade 1

is the story a continuation or would i enjoy it as a standalone? hows the gameplay?
>>
>>320182678
what ps2 game is this?
>>
>>320185279

Was not impressed with the world. At least in the demo.
>>
>>320185094
When I talk of middleware specifically I mean stuff like havok and speedtree and shit like that.

Those will definitely stick because fuck coding your own physics engine in 2015. I just think Unreal will wane again as the gen closes as devs want to get more fancy and outdo each other again with their fancy inhouse engines.
>>
>>320183602
I played on PS4 and WItcher 3 was awful at times.
Sometimes yo uliterally have to stop moving or else the game constantly stutters because its still loading.
NPCs take time to load in and talking to a shopkeeper can sometimes make a loading screen appear.
>>
>>320185386

It's a stand alone. The games have nothing to do with each other outside of gameplay elements.
>>
>>320185380
so you're eager to dismiss the evidence i just posted showing a seamless open world area, because there is another large seamless area that you have to load because its halfway across the sea? ok mate. we're talking about the fact that its a large area that's loaded seamlessly, which other games do this apart from the games mentioned in this thread? I love this shit
>>
>>320185279
A FF game that's playable from the start to finish isn't saying much. I want to know their progress on the side quests and extras. That's where the real meat of the game is (or used to be(at least, I hope)).
>>
>>320185386

It's a whole new story with 0 references to the other Xenoblade (like FF games).

>hows the gameplay?

Combat gameplay resembles an MMo with skills (arts) depending on your weapons (you choose those arts).
>>
>>320184664
how is that different than the witcher or any other open world game?
>>
>>320185417
All you kids who keep spouting this need to head on down to your local used game dealer and ask him to boot up a PS2 for you to look at.
>>
>>320185590
>fail criteria in OP post
>get mad
It is ok; I understand.
>>
>>320185590

It's not seamless though. In XCX you can literally cross the sea to travel to other continents with no loading screen.
>>
>>320185447
really? i never encountered this issue.
do you have a standard hdd in your ps4?
I stuck a spare 1tb in it that I had lying around, the stock hdd's are trash, 5400rpm drives man. pretty much most things on the market are faster. maybe the witcher actually runs like shit on stock hdd's and i'm not getting this shit because of better hardware?
>>
>>320185825
you can do that in the first final fantasy too, so what?
>>
>>320185279
And you've played the entire game and experienced no loading time when traveling the entire world? Wow.
>>
>>320184813
>left classic bugs
more like programmed them in
>Have you ever looked at the file sizes of Nintendo games?
Nintendo is still doing midi music and compressed audio. I know that for someone using shitty stereo it has no meaning but it's not the same for people that value sound quality.
>>
>>320185907

So that's the point of this thread dipshit.
>>
>>320185279
Why are FF(ags) the absolute worst?

X is basically an MMO with an amazing world and decent combat. There's not really any quests that aren't killing shit, talking to people or collecting shit unless you're doing the story missions but to do the story missions you usually have to survey a part of the world by a certain percentage and do a certain character building sidequest
Still playing through it so I'll need time to think it over but it's my GOTY just because the world is beautiful and I love Xenogears and giant mechs.
>>
>>320182678
So a no-loading open world is a big deal now? Because games were doing that shit back on the PS1. It's nothing new. It's nice, sure, but nothing new.
Didn't realize Nintendo fans had so little to hold onto. Keep it up! I'm sure the NX will do... something.
>>
>>320185879
I dont touch anything on my consoles
>>
>>320186891
Don't worry, there is a lot to do in the game, the problem I'm having (not a game problem, MY problem) is that I was expecting another open world game, but the map is not only big, but its a fucking maze.

Don't expect "run from point A to point B to reach destination" because to reach some places you will have to go left, right, above mountains, through tunnels, going around. And when you think you are near the destination, NOPE, you went the wrong way and have to find another way. Not only the game is big, it's very vertical too.

Even if you abuse fast travel and the navigation light (some sort of light that guides you to the destination) you will keep finding new places. But of course, once you get the Skell, and later on, you get the engine to fly with the Skell, you will reach any place pretty fast.
>>

Honestly if you don't have the time to invest in it you won't get a lot out of it. It's really complex and there's basically no tutorial. You really need to spend A LOT of time with the battle system, classes and exploration.
>>
>>320188581
I dont trust myself and might end up breaking the whole thing
>>
>>320188229
>Do you get lost a lot?

Yeah I did, and is not "here are lvl 5 monsters,, a little to the north are lvl 10 monsters" you have everything mixed, you can be in a zone mostly populated by lvl 10 little monsters and suddenly an aggresive tyrant 10 times bigger than a skell is around running like a retard with too much sugar and if it spots you just let him kill you because there is no way you will be able to run. Also you can be near a lake, in the shore you find lvl 12 monsters but in the lake there are lvl 45 things that look like alligators.

Also some monster spawns will change depending on the time of the day, and if it's raining or shit like that. So you can be so happy running around, and the game decides that it's raining time just when you are in the exact spot of a lvl 70 tyrant that spawns only when it rains. The first levels and hours you will never feel safe and you won't know where the fuck are you going.

But once you get the skell you move with a lot more freedom, you go faster, you jump higher, and places you couldn't reach are easier to get to.

There is a progression, you feel more confident, and you get more powerful skells and equipment, you start with a fucking rifle dealing 2-3 damage each bullet and at the end of the game (the endgame, not the end of the story) you are piloting flying skells with attacks that deal millions of damage.
>>
>>320183602
I was pretty impressed with Witcher 3, the map was segmented but the Novigrad/Velen area was huge, you could just walk into any dungeon or house without any sort of loading, it's really embarrassing to compare it to games like FO4/skyrim.

>>320183504
>When they made WiiU, they literally didn't see the need, for better or worse, to make it as powerful as something like PS4 because well....
Are you just making stuff up as you go along? Miyamoto came out and said that they were originally going to appeal to the Wii crowd with the gamepad's touchscreen until smartphones came around and took its potential appeal. It's weak not because they didn't see the need for more power, but just to have a lowish price to make up for the expensive gamepad. Looking back you can see how it played out, Nintendo realizes that no one's going to be interested in the Wii U, so they go to E3 and reveal this weak ass console with a huge gimmick controller and begin talking about how it's a powerful console for the "hardcore gamer" and that it'll have a bunch of 3rd party support.

>Xenoblade X to run on a PS3 would've had to have been like 800x600 resolution
The game is at 720p/semi-steady30fps right? We know the Wii U is a bit stronger than the PS3, this isn't all that impressive.

I dunno if its jsut me, but i'm a bit disapointed in my Skell compared to groundworks. Sure, i got the giant sword thingy and the tackles doing good damage, but my little guy is more effective on the groud.

Also, i already lost 2 insurance by drifting like a tard in obliia giant hole. What happen if i lose the 3rd?

Are you using the free skell? Everyone says it is shit, but I just don't have enough money to buy a lvl 30 one. Keep in mind that the free skell is a lvl 20 one, with lvl 20 weapons, once you get it you probably would be around lvl 30 so it's not so weird to be stronger than the free skell.

Also if you lose the 3rd one I think that you have to pay the repairs, and they cost a lot of money.
>>
Is there anything i can do to get insurance back on a Skell? I ran out the insurance on my first level 30 frame due to some bullshit/generic fuckups, but after I payed for it back it's still at 0 left, so I cant even have an Ai get it repaired. Im assuming i should take everything off then sell it, then just buy a new one? It's cheaper than repairing over and over.

Sort of. There's the "tutorial" which is story exposition but no instruction on the battle system.

Also has anyone else not been able to target enemies???? I know you hold R and press A but it only seems to work 10% of the time.
>>
>>320190430
I'm using the heavyest and most expensive. Maybe augment increase it a bit, but i doubt it would make quite such a difference.
I've had the sword hit for 27k once, but my main dude hit for 12k consistently and is not even completely decked out. And he doesn't need to wait 40 sec for the Cd afterward.... ANd that's without going into overdrives, where grounded he can do about 40k in 10 sec on good conditions
>>
>want to make some cool builds
>will take forever to farm unless I make a ares 90
>a stock ares 90 can kill most tyrants in one hit save for the super bosses/headless herbivore

Even luciel is no match. Just knowing this is KILLING my motivation to play.
>>
>>320190882
You press it, not hold. If you want to lock to a bodypart you press the right stick.
>>
>>320190313
It's not "old school" hardcore, the game is not hard to be honest, but yeah, it pretty much throws you after a few minutes and doesn't explain most mechanics, OR it explains them pretty late.

And yeah, it doesn't hold your hand when you move around the maps, these last days I had a lot of "HOW THE FUCK DO I REACH THAT PLACE IF YOU PUT MONSTERS 30 LVLS HIGHER THAN ME IN THE WAY, GAME?".

What you will learn the first hours, and doing the first missions, is that there is usually an easy way to reach the destination of the quests the give you, but you have to find that way, you will die a lot just trying to travel in a straight line.
>>
>>320184305
The only loading screens in the game are when you fast travel or enter the barracks. You can run from one end of the world to the next with zero loading.
>>
>>320191092
This

ANd if they put a enemy as a ''guard'' (often either Grexes or Monkeys) you can generally circumvent them. Parkouring on the wall is generally safe
>>
>>320190882
Funny thing, I discovered this a few minutes ago. Press the right joystick to lock on an enemy. Also, you can press the left joystick to sprint, yeah...I discovered it after I have spent 30 hours playing.
>>
>>320191360
I knew about sprint....you know you jump higher when sprinting, right?
>>
>>320191572
Yeah, the problem is I discovered it 5 minutes before I got the skell, so it's pretty much useless right now.
>>
>>320191309
so it's the same as Fallout, The Witcher 3, and Skyrim?
>>
>>320191309
>next to zero loading
>>
>>320191360

I'm pretty sure they mention sprinting in the first few minutes of the game. Not just in the manual.
>>
>>320191847

Have you even played any of those games? They have loading screens when you enter a building, cave, etc. because they are not to scale.

In Xenoblade, everything is to scale. When you go in a cave, that cave is as big from the inside as the outside.
>>

I think it has something to do with the spanish localization, they said something like "use left joystick to keep running" instead of "press left joystick to sprint".

They took a LOT of freedom translating it, reading it in spanish and listening the voices in english, sometimes they don't even mean the same.

Gundam Unicorn, Blue Exorcist, Guilty Crown, etc.

>they look a LOT of freedom translating it

pic unrelated, but honestly, in my experience this typically leads to the best possible results. Look at Kid Icarus: Uprising. That humour and originality is fantastic, and really breathed life into the game. Word-for-word literal faithfulness during localisation (read: not translation) makes you end up with janky, robotic, Pokemon SMD-tier speech. It sounds weird, and the more naturally you localise text, especially speech, the further it gets from the original source.

I think a nice compromise is that as long as you keep the tone, key components, points of information and characterisation the same, you should be able to go hog wild as long as you're a competent writer too.

Source: lived in Japan, learning multiple languages makes you realise how effective taking liberties in translation is in producing a good end product.

Oh I didnt' mean the english localization, I meant the spanish subtitles. I have found many cutscenes were they changed the meaning in the translation when I was listening to the english voices I found a much better, faithful and natural translation. As I said, sometimes I had to stop reading and just listening to the english voices because when I think sometimes they used babelfish to translate.

The only times I had a monster "pop up" on me is when the time changed from day to night or the other way or it started raining or shit like that.

All the time the big monsters are rendered much farther and the little ones closer but still far enough so it didn't pop up on me.

If there was anything in the fucking world it would. It's just a big empty battlespace. No treasures, just mining spots and collectibles. NPCs almost never have VO. It is literally a huge field of fighting. Any game could do that. At 720p it's not even a bragging point.

Also, RDR faggot.

Playing on mainly PC really shows just how pathetically under-powered consoles are.

I get that they have basically no choice, but honestly, having draw distances that fucking low (especially all the foliage, which is much worse) breaks away from the immersion almost as much as loading screens do. At least, to me anyway.

this

I watched a youtube runthrough with the flight module- holy shit that was bad. The game would barely be able to render things until you were already passed them. At least have the sense to gimp the speed of your mech to match the draw distance of the console, monolith
>>
>>320190469
Nope, can't get insurance back. Only thing you could do is get salvage tickets from division rewards. You'd probably have to join Prospectors since they're dominating hard on the rankings. I don't really think that's worth it though. Better to bite the bullet and get a new one and focus on not fucking up so bad. If you're going into an unfamiliar battle you think you might get wrecked in then make a habit of saving first and then see what happens.
>>
>>320194941
The game as a whole is not as good as Xenoblade Chronicles. One, XBC is actually complete. This game isn't, there's a sequel hook.

The party members don't have the same feeling of camaraderie as XBC unless you go out of your way to do their affinity missions and heart-to-hearts to get to know them.

If you like exploring and adventure in JRPGs minus a heavy main story or a game in the vein of the first Zelda on NES, because that's the same feeling I get from playing this game, then this game is for you.

But that's what happens when you get an underpowered console, you sacrifice technology like inverse kinematics. There are so many things to fix to make the visual experience good. It's too bad this will never see a PC release.
>>
>>320195341
I actually like it more than the original, it feels less like a generic JRPG and more like an old school RPG in a modernized fashion.

>>320194941
As for the difficulty, unless you grind like a madman or go die three times and lower the bosses levels, the game is pretty much "every story boss is a casual filter".

Early game isn't particularly kind to you, either. Areas you have to get through are regularly filled with high level enemies you have to sneak past, and if you fuck that up you might as well be dead. Every odd formation or cool-looking thing is generally a death trap, too. It's not particularly difficult, but it's sufficiently challenging nonetheless. It's a neat sweet spot.
>>
>>320195559
Wait, seriously?

I was considering buying this game even after having its (god-fucking-awful) storyline spoiled for me, and even though it had 12 year old anime tiddies and MUH ENGRISH HIP HOP SOUNDTRACK, simply because everyone here was praising the gameplay so highly. But if the actual gameplay suffers like that, I think I'll give it a miss.

What a shame. Maybe when I can get it secondhand for $40- i.e. in a year from now when I no longer give a shit.

ITT A lot of WiiU-only players boasting about irrelevant shit while ignoring the game's other problems. But I understand since it was just released and is still on its honeymoon period

All but the shittiest (mostly Bethesda's stuff) open world games don't have a lot of loading screens to begin with, it's not something anyone would find unpleasant. If a game can do away with loading screens (outside of fast-travel), fine it's neat and all that but that's just a small detail no one would care if it wasn't there.

Regardless, off the top of my head here are some games with no loading except for teleportation/fast-travel or cutscenes:
-GTA games since 1997
-Quite a few of the recent Assassins Creed games
-Infamous
-Bloodborne (and I think the first DaS)
-JustCause and Farcry games (just assuming here, last farcry I played was the 2nd one)
-Red Dead Redemption (if memory serves right, again not sure)
-Crackdown
-No Man's Sky, if it ever comes out

other games come close as they have unobtrusive and rare loading screens such as witcher3 or Dragon's Dogma

I could get on Google and give you many more examples. I seriously don't get how this is a surprise or anything relevant at all
