Why is nobody here talking about this?
>>
>>320158895
We had a thread few hours ago.
>>
Nothing to talk about yet
>>
>>320158895
Because we did and there's not much to go off now.

It's cool that they have SHODAN's original voice back and even if it turns out bad I'm glad it ended up back with the people who started SS rather than some random group with no apparent love for the series like what happened with Thief. Cautiously optimistic about it and Underworld.
>>
>>320158895
This is gonna be a mobile game or some kickstarter shit I tell you.
>>
Because it's more than likely gonna be kickstarter shit
>>
Why did they even bother doing this? I literally waited for this stupid countdown.
>>
>>320158895
>probably going to be shit funded by kickstarter
>I still would give it $100

I am the cancer killing the industry
>>
im quite sceptical about this
based on the questions from developers, how the players feel about vr and others, id say it barely even start the preproduction phase

that been said, i think it would be kickstarter

im super hungry for a good singleplayer fps/rpg, but i think its not possible to deliver a good one without semi AAA budget, and a big team with a lot of resources.

and is there any kickstarter superfunded game
that isnt half baked? besides indie "its artistic vision not cheap graphics" only based on mechanics
>>
Cancerous indie garbage. Just play a Deus Ex mod and pretend it's the real System Shock 3.
>>
>>320161083
This. It's difficult to get excited for games that have the capabilities of being picked up by publishers but instead the developers choose to ask customers to fund them.

Either way. This game won't be done for years.

didnt play any of the old thief games but I picked up the new one for like 6 bucks on a steam sale and still found it boring. what were the big differences?
>>
I don't know how it will turn out but I don't think it's some cynical cash grab. The guy who found this company (and Looking Glass back when it was still Blue Sky) has been trying to arrange for a new system shock for years.

There are better ways he could make a quick buck than to spend that long untangling the rights to a long dead and mostly forgotten video game series.
>>
>>320159465
underworld ascendant doesnt look that great... but i wanna see what the finished product is before being too harsh on it also i'm not sure giving ss3 over to a company that haven't produced a single thing is a good idea, all other side have going for them is that they have some people from good old looking glass being involved in some way or another
>>
>>320164310
Bigger and more open ended levels, less gritty and more humorous, it has a story that's coherent and has no annoying characters. There are a lot of specific things I could pick out but they wouldn't mean much to you unless you already played the originals.
If you like Deus Ex, System Shock, or Dishonored it'll be up your alley.
>>

That's basically how I look at it.
What gives me some hope is that in interviews and videos they speak like they at least understand what the appeal of the old games were. I remember before Thief 4 came out, it was like nobody working on it or presenting it was even familiar with the source material and ended up with shit like pic related.
Time will tell if Otherside can actually deliver a good game but their attitude is opposite that (and they had nothing good to say about Thief 4).
>>

i hope it's good but atleast we'll always have arx fatalis

>>320165942
It'll feel similar to SS2, they were on the same engine and have the same movement, a lot of the same animations, same basic kind of story telling, SS2 even carries over a basic form of stealth from Thief. It just never comes into play because the levels aren't designed for it and your visibility isn't conveyed to you.

>>
>>320164310
Somehow despite having more focus on action as a viable option, Thief 4 manages to be miserably slow to play through.
You could actually go pretty fast in 1/2 as long as you stuck to quiet surfaces and adjusted your speed accordingly, but because Thief 4 dumbs it down to "avoid running full stop," the entire game is just a painfully slow crouchfest where you monotonously creep past boring guard encounters. The swoop isn't even as fast as just running in 1/2.

Because System Shock 2 was overrated garbage.

Much like Deus Ex and Thief, SS2 gets significantly shittier the further along you go. Granted, there are always unfun mechanics like weapon degredation and the potential of screwing yourself if you don't know what skills are worthwhile ahead of time, but at least in the early stages the game is novel enough for the atmosphere and SHODAN to make up for it.

Then you beat the Recreation deck. Congratulations, the entire rest of the game is a downward trend through the Command deck, an easter egg hunt on the Rickenbacker (with no map, naturally), an unfun trudge through the body of the many ending in a terrible bossfight, and an interesting reality-warping area capped off by an even shittier and anti-climatic boss fight with SHODAN, with an ending that somehow manages to be worse than the original Half Life.

SS2 is an experience that I'm glad I had when I had more patience for unfun bullshit, but there's enough of it in there where I'm never playing the game again, at least not to the end. Bioshock is a significantly better game overall, even if it's missing SHODAN.

ss2 has a bunch of problems and does in fact and there is a big drop off in quality around 2/3 of the way through

The problem with gun degradation isn't that it occurs, it's that it's way too fast by default. Sure, you can change it in a config file, but how many people playing for the first time would actually know to do that, especially considering that the game is on Steam and GoG and is expected to work out of the box.
>>
>>320171024
>it makes no sense

It does though. There is a shitload of crewmembers around the ship. Of course the Many will sent more troops to your location and on other decks to secure them.

You can, if you are an american pussy which it seems you are, mod the respawn rates and completely even remove it.
>>
>>320171753
>People altering the gun degradation in SS2
Does anyone actually do this? I'm pretty sure the point of the game was to shoot until you have to do that repair minigame super fast
>>
>>320171753
>but how many people playing for the first time would actually know to do that, especially considering that the game is on Steam and GoG and is expected to work out of the box.

I don't know where you live, but back in 1999 it was usual to check the .ini files. More so these days, when you got to change fov etc since the cvck devs are too lazy to put a slider or have a high default fov. Also the tutorial tells you about gun degradiation. You get about 30 of those devises total, so if you invest even 1 point in maintenance, you are good. Also there are about 5 fully repaired pistols in the first five decks, carrying those (and the less ok pistols) will get you basically an unlimited supply of working guns. Of course the contemporary gamers are fucking pussies and cant handle it but that is their problem.
>>

>SS2
>Ugly

System Shock 2 is literally one of the scariest games I have ever played because of it's atmosphere, style and looks. There's something about the unnatural animations and less developed graphics that make older horror games spookier to me, it's weird.
>>
>>320172520
Lighting, art design and sound design are godtier. Blocky graphics add to that because it leaves things open for imagination. Sure, graphics could be better, but that is why we have SHTUP.

level design was very ss2-ish and art direction was top notch but i still think ss1 beats the later installments on pretty much every point

It's system shock but pandering to a broader audience.

Make them feel "special" like the game couldn't happen with out them and they'll eat up any of the shit that results.

Night Dive is wasting all their money on the pointless SS1 remake. That money should be going to SS3.

There's no way this will match the greatness of the first two games...

Look at Bioshock by the ACTUAL dev from System Shock! Everything was dumbed down in the name of politics and self-importance.

best case scenario we get something similar to human revolution

It's okay if you like it that way anon, at least you got to play that masterpiece of a game.

It still fucks up cyberspace, and I have a feeling that's why a lot of people complain about it, because they play with mouselook.

They made a bad mistake, making it the default option in EE instead of giving you a choice straight up.

mac music is pretty good too

well the only way to disable/enable it is through the config file so i can understand why they went with that as default they would just be avoiding a lot of complaints lol
>>
>>320181619
Well, you can always change it and I think that contemporary gamers prefer it that way.
>>
>>320181925
Well I don't know, adding a prompt to SHLINK which asks you what you prefer can't be that hard.

You're now on the engineering deck. Find the engine core and reset it. This will restore power to the elevators. I'm getting some kind of strange readings from down there, so keep your eyes open.

I can't think of anything he'd be working on now, but he was involved in some way with the DOTA 2 SHODAN sound pack so maybe.

He's not the only musician who worked on that game though.

Josh Randall said he'd lend a hand on SS3 if he's asked to (2 years ago).

I wish people would think about good game design for a change.

That video for UA has a voiced character but in the version with actual dev commentary he says the final game will be a silent protag so you have to figure things out for yourself in "true roleplaying fashion". Make of that what you will.
I for one wouldn't mind Garrett of the future.
